The first post of this thread mentions 5571 = 5570 + joystick port. There's also mentions that 5571 = 4871/9871. Have you tried the drivers for these?
Also, found a link that may be of interest hopefully: http://www.win3x.org/win3board/viewtopic.php? … tyle=30&t=19261
Good luck! 😀

Thank you, pool7. I'll have to try the 5570 and 5572 drivers and there are indeed chances that the card will work.
Mostly I'm hoping that the MPU-401 port will work in DOS.
The only card that 100% supports MPU-401 in bare DOS is Roland SCP-55. All other cards support it in Windows.

PS: For reference, the japanese manual (couldn't find an english one) for the 5571 mentions the following files in its DOS section; however I couldn't find anything else about these:
REX5571.SYS
REX71DBK.SYS
REX71365.SYS
REX9871.SYS
REX4871.SYS

Yeah, I've gone along this path with same result. I was also looking through old snapshots of ratoc website on archive.org. But no luck there as well. Found even their prehistoric website from 1996 https://web.archive.org/web/19970701035825/ht … lish/home.shtml But there are no drivers at all there.

Does anybody here have any experience with getting PCMCIA sound cards to work in DOS on a desktop PC through a PCMCIA PCI adapter?

The 3 Ratoc cards all use the same audio chip, the ess1688p.
In theory, the DOS driver for the 5570 should work.
Or you could try the one for the 5572 and use the switch to deactivate the scsi function if it's possible to do that.
http://nwserveur.no-ip.org/win3xorg/devices/P … X-5572/drivers/

The 5570 midi out port works fine in DOS, the enabler has a switch to set up the IO address for it.
Same for the 5572 enabler.

Yes, I have ISA and PCI PCMCIA adapters, what do you want to know?

I was wondering about DOS support for the PCI PCMCIA adapters that I occasionally see come by on eBay. If I understand correctly, you need this driver framework called Card Services for DOS, right? I'm not sure if DOS software always comes specifically with such cards, especially these days. I know it's still possible to purchase a license for CardWare 7.0 for DOS/Windows 3.x at APSoft, but at €60, the price for such a license is a bit on the steep side. 😬

It just seems like a fun idea to play with PCMCIA sound cards in modern PCs, especially to try getting them to work in DOS.

Cardsoft Socket/Card Services was just one of the provider of drivers for PCCMIA chipset, it was very common and usually provided as part of the software package for laptops, it still easy to find on laptop manufacturers websites/ftp from the time.
But it supports only a limited number of chipsets that were in use at the time, Intel 82365, Databook, Vadem, Toshiba ToPic, stuff like that.

PCI PCMCIA adapters don't use those, I have one with an ENE chipset which is only supported by APSoft Cardware for example.
Cardware 7.0 has a long list of supported chipsets, it probably suppports them all... there is a 14 trial version though.
It's possible to find PCI cards with other chipsets which may or may not be supported by Cardsoft Socket/Card Services but you'll have to look for that info.
That said, it's easier to go with an ISA PCMCIA adapter if you can find one and if you have a free ISA slot to use it.

I just tried this. No luck with 5570 and 5572 drivers, unfortunately. I have the 5572 card and it works fine. If I plug in 5571 card the driver installs and sets resources, but sound does not work. Same with 5570 driver...

For some reason I could not make the MPU-401 port of 5572 port work in DOS. Whatever I do it's not detected. I tried excluding the relevant addresses, and all the switches of the driver. In Windows it's working fine. Maybe the switch is indended for Windows, like it was with TDK card?
Are you sure MPU-401 on 5570 worked in pure DOS?

What does the 5570 driver's output say?
I never used the 5570 in Win3.x, only in DOS, and i definitely used it with my sc-55mk2.

Can you run the Cardsoft identifying utility (cardinfo i think) with your 2 cards?
The driver might expect the correct id string and fail when the card info returned is different than for the 5570...

The driver displays usual info as if it's a correct card:
Socket=0 Port = 220 Int=9
Hmm, so maybe 5572 is not supposed to work like this? But I can see all same switches in the driver file if I view it in text viewer...

I've checked the card name in ezplay (IBM utility) and it's displayed as "Ratoc Card 71"
So if the driver does name check it's not the one it expects...

And what happens if you use the 5570 driver with it?

I'll check this out and make some screenshots tomorrow.
But as far as i can see from readme files and descriptions on ratoc page 5572 does not support MIDI out via joystic port in DOS.
Readme for 5572 does not mention /index22 switch, whereas in 5571's readme it's mentioned.

Only with 5572 with it's dedicated driver.

Yes, I tried this switch. I was putting port address there /MPU=330 Dunno if that's correct. Maybe should be YES.
I also tried some of these switches in combinations that made sense. No luck.

Would be much more promising if the sound worked, but it does not work as well.

I found out from the FAQ that Ratoc sold DOS drivers separately for 5000 yens. Vendor code - REX-71A. That is why it's not available online. And also they made sure drivers were not interchangeable. Same for 5572.

I think I found them on the Win3x.org board along with an installation tutorial:

They sold the 5571 DOS drivers for owners of the 5571W card who wanted to use it in DOS.

It may be worth the effort to contact the Ratoc customer service asking for the 5571 DOS and Win3.x drivers.

I'll try to contact Ratoc. I'm wondering if they still charge 5000 yens for them.

Got a respond from Ratoc. Unfortunately they don't have the drivers. The guy on the other end was very responsive and indeed was trying to find the drivers, but with no luck.
