Hello all,

I'm writing here, because I'm new to dosbox and I have an invtro to "The Gathering '99", which runs under DOS and needs dos4gw, but I can't start it.
When I start it, it hangs, when I press "Space" then it is possible to change the soundcard-settings, but when I leave these settings it hangs again. All I can do then is pressing "Space" or another key again to change the sound-settings again, but this isn't of course what I want.

So I'm asking here the pros, who have much experience with dosbox if some of you can download the invtro and maybe get it to run?

Then it would be great, if you could post a reply here, how you managed it to run flawless at your computer!

You can download the invtro here:

Greets to all
Alex

First of all please put in more information next time, like what OS you
are using and what dosbox version, then what things you already tried
and similar.

It seems to finally start after a while, they have a large vret loop at
the beginning. Something seems to be wrong though.

Thanks for your answer! 😁

Because I wrote that I'm new to dosbox, I thought, you would think, that I just downloaded the newest version (I use dosbox 0.70). Then I didn't knew, that it is important, which OS I use, because at the download page I see that it is available for all systems with the same version number (0.70), so I think it should react same at each OS.

I use Windows XP Professional SP2, with all current patches.
My computer has an AMD Athlon XP 1500+ with 512 MB DDR-RAM at 266 Mhz. My gfx card is a GeForce 6800 XT and I use the onboard sound of the Elitegroup K7S5A mainboard.

In the Dosbox.conf I have changed this:

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=true
fullresolution=1280x1024
windowresolution=1280x1024
output=ddraw

Now with your answer I tried again and I managed to run it (after a long time). But when I click on "next" then the text scrolls and the music slows down. When the scrolling ends the music is fast enough, again.

With "vret" I suppose you mean "vertical retrace"?

Many thanks, for your reply!! Without it I would never have waited so long to finally see it continuing!

Yes, some oddly-large loop that waits for the (emulated) retrace signal.
Think the retrace is ok, just the loop should either be much less executed
or something (?) would interrupt it. Didn't find either yet.
