Hi, i want to reproduce ima adpcm wav files in dos or win31, the computer is a 286 10mhz, 1mb, hercules card. I have DOS/windows 3.1 setup, but im not lucky to find a soft to play this kind of files

Normal 8000khz 8bit PCM works great, in dos players or in media player in 3.1 using pc speaker driver, but i dont find any player for ima adpcm, that is 4bits and are half small. I know vfw 1.1 have ima adpcm driver, but need a 386.

I installed the ima adpcm drivers by hand, but dont work, maybe have 386 code. I dont find dos players that work on hercules+286+pc speaker...

Any ideas? thanks!

I don't know if it's helpful, but VFW 1.0 did run on my 286 in the past.
Not sure if it has the driver, though..
16-Bit QuickTime ran on my 286, too.

Hi thanks a lot! yes i installed your "obscure" vfw 1.0, but not have ima adpcm driver. I extracted the driver from 1.1 but even if i see in driver panel dont work, maybe have 386 code? (sorry my english, hope you undersdtand me)

I will try quicktime, i did not test, because in my pentium machine i tested quicktime and did not reproduce any wave file

Do you really need IMA ADPCM ?
QuickView 1.03b works on 286, supports PC Speaker, and .WAV files with Microsoft ADPCM and Creative Labs ADPCM.

There's one more problem, though: it refuses to run without VGA, even though it uses text mode when playing sound files, or even no video output at all when run with filename as the command line parameter.
So, it should be possible to patch it to bypass the VGA detection routine...
