Righte-o, I haven't posted before, but I found this handy-dandy chart of info to give, so let's see how this goes. I've never used DOSBox before, so I may be using it wrong.

1. Errr... Seanix motherboard?
2. Pentium 4, 2.26gh
3. 256 MB ram
4. NVidia GForce4 MX 440
5. SoundMAX Digital Audio
6. Windows XP (service pack 2, of course)
7. Wizardry: Crusaders of the Dark Savant ("CD-ROM edition)
8. It fails to install (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT isn't suitable for running DOS applications)
9. Every time.
10. N/A
11. N/A
12. DOSBox 0.70
13. Downloaded Dosbox, tried mounting my D drive (where I would install from), my C drive (yes, not recommended, I know), and the C folder I want to install to. It made the folder, then gave me an error that I forgot to write down (silly me). I tried again today, and it claimed it was already installed. When I asked to reinstall, it created "PCfile.dbs" and "scenario.hdr" and said it was done. Now, I'm pretty sure neither of those files run the game, so I'm kind of confused what's up. I can't find any other files on my system that could be the game, and it seems fairly clear that's where it's supposed to be. Any help on what might have happened?

Also, a long time ago I tried to get the CD-Rom version of "System Shock" to work under XP, tried everything including DOSBox and still failed, some.... mouse/soundcard port problem? The game installed, and the openning sequence worked; the game only crashed when you started to actually play. Sorry I can't be more specific, my disk is in storage and I don't want to dig it out unless you guys can give me some good news.

Well, the good news is that System Shock works perfectly with DOSBox.

Judging from what you wrote, you're probably doing something wrong with the mounts - a very common problem.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT isn't suitable for running DOS applications

This means you didn't run the install in DOSBox, but with Windows XP. You should _ALWAYS_ install the games you want to play in DOSBox with DOSBox.

You should create an empty directory somewhere on your system (any hd/directory), and mount it as "C:\"-drive in DOSBox. If you do that, you won't have to search around your harddisks for files that may have been installed by the game. Don't change this mount when running games. You don't need an additional mount, besides the CD drive.

Regarding your "Wizardry" problem: i haven't got the game, so i can't help you with the specific problem, sorry. But i know there are CD-based games that will copy only config files to the hd, not the game data itself. The game can then be started with an EXE/BAT/COM on the CD, and will read its config, save games, etc. from the hd.

You should mount an empty subdirectory as "C:\" (see above), and reinstall the game. After you did that, check the directory (the virtual C:\ drive) for game files. If there's no executable to start the game, check the CD for executables.

Ah, I think I got it - I was looking for a .exe when I should have been looking for a .bat. Your advice is appreciated though, I redid it your way and got everything to work just fine. Thanks!
