I purchased an Acer Chromebook Vero 514 - CBV514-1H-55VP
Activated LINUX Debian Buster 10
I have managed to do a Flatpac install of the 2.7.0 Heroic Games Launcher and it seems to work since I was able to log into both my Epic and Gog accounts.
I seem to have been able to download Master of Orion II From GOG since all the files are in my games folder.
But, the game will not launch.
As I read the report, I didn't get a complete DOSBox with the download??

Looks like I need libcaca.so.0:
If it is available, can I simply paste it into the file /home/daviwaynedisney/Games/Heroic/Master of Orion 2/dosbox/dosbox_x86_64 ?

Thanks

Thus forum isn't free support for gog. If you bought it from there you should get support from there. It's likely you wouldn't be the only one with the issue and they may already know the solution for the missing dependency which would be to use a build of dosbox provided by the repo for your distribution or to install the missing dependency for the build you are trying to use.

Ok. Thanks.. That was a bit of information I needed to know.
It is interesting though that I have the same game downloaded from GOG on a Win 7 Ultimate machine and a Win 11 Pro and that dependency is not in either of them so If it is a GOG issue, it is specific to what they are offering for Linux.

So far I am getting crickets on the GOG support forum.

Ah, there's your problem. Their forums are discussion forums, and clearly labelled as such; any support still happening there is purely coincidental. The support section's thataway.

Another approach would be to ignore their bundles DOSbox version (do keep their config files though), install one through your package manager and use that. I doubt they invest a lot of manpower into customizing the code of the app itself so you should be fine. Of course you're on your own then wrt support.

Ok. Thanks for the ideas.

I cannot get through the GOG support maze because I am not actually using a Ubuntu distro. I am using Debian 10 Buster.

I am going to keep looking for libcaca.so.0: and paste it in where it is supposed to be.

This problem has been cropping up with other GOG games and also some Steam games.

Or just wait till GOG does an update.

I just stopped by to say that libcaca.so.O is a super funny name.

So when you try to use

sudo apt-get install libcaca0
(note the last letter is a zero)

the libcaca.so.0 doesn't work?

I am not a linux aficionado so I had no idea I could even do such a thing. Will give it a try.

To clarify the joke, "caca" means poop in French. It's a bit immature 😀

I may not know anything about Linux, but I got the joke as soon as a saw it.

Poop jokes are acceptable, even well received, but when somebody names his code "libupskirt" then there's a shitstorm? Okay.

You need to run apt-get not get-apt.
