Duke Nukem 3D, PCPlayer Benchmark, Archimedean Dynasty. In Windows - Forsaken, Quake 2.

Wondering if this is a card worth getting, how is the picture quality on the ARK 1000 ?

Compared to the other 'good' PCI cards of that era, 1995-1998 etc.
I got a Tseng 6000, Riva128, random S3's, as well as some TNT1 I think.... oh, and a Voodoo3 as well.

If you want to squeeze VGA performance for benchies - probably. I doubt it can compete with Tseng, Nvidia or even some S3 in highres VESA modes. Especially if you'll find just some noname card, which will have sub-optimal clocks.

Picture quality should be average. ARK2000 cards use external DACs, but most of them aren't top tier. If your Riva 128 or TNT1 are from good brand, they clearly would be better.

Is it related to the ARK2000PV?
I vaguely remember that card from an earlier thread.

It's related to ARK2000 series in general. They mostly use DACs from ICS and AT&T.

heh, yes, the one I found had this weird tiny DAC from AT&T placed into a square apparantly made for a larger DAC....
No idea if it is a 2000 or 1000 though, the ARK chip itself is covered with a huge sticker of the card maker on the sellers pictures.
Perhaps I should avoid this one then.

Like I said, why would you need one, if you already have better cards at your disposal? If it's only about picture quality.

Does anyone knows the difference between the ark2000 PV and MT?

I believe the MT has built-in MPEG video acceleration, while the PV does not. Both should be the same in DOS gaming performance.

I'm the happy owner of Stingray 64 ARK PCI card.
I didn't run it yet, but I can't find any information about it's RAMDAC (ARK194B-13) and possible problems with it.
Anyone heard about it or has a card with it ?

I am doubtful that ARK actually made their own RAMDACs. They probably just slapped their silkscreen on an AT&T chip.

That's a beautiful card. I had that exact card back then, and I have a different brand of ARK2000 card now in my retro PC. I only use it for DOS gaming and don't know much about the RAMDAC, but it is very fast with few compatibility issues. Nice find...
