I found a big box of CPU's the other day while looking through e-waste. There were about 50 socket 3 through socket A CPUs jumbled loose at the bottom.
Re: I recently found this hardware, AKA the Dumpster find thread.

Project pin straightening has been going pretty well for several days now. Something to do during endless conference calls.

The Socket 3 & 4 CPU's were pretty easy, but the Socket 5, 7, 370, & A are a little harder. I cut a thin plastic gift card like this and it is helped a lot. As long as the pins are not bent more than 20 degrees, I can slide it through and bend them back.

Everything is finished except for one Socket 7 MMX that has lots if elbowed pins and a socket A Athlon XP with the brown OPGA with a pin that was bent completely flat. When I tried to lift it with tiny pliers, it fell off.

Looking at the data sheet, it looks like VSS.

Do I need to try to reattach it or can I skip on one of the many VSS pins?
