I need to try harder. My scores seems low and I want to find out why.
It should not be all that difficult to beat my results:
What I use is:
1. A custom Windows XP install with a bunch of stuff removed.
2. I tune some of the Nvidia graphics settings to the max, inlcuding LOD (But I did not try all that many settings and only 2-3 different drivers, there might be plenty of room for improvement here).
3. I used a chip that has a low multiplier but overclocks ok = I get higher memory frequency.
What I could use if I had them to get an even better score:
1. A motherboard that supports AGP 8X (mine is only 4X).
2. A faster GPU (+ voltmods & watercooling; I did not bother to do either; I only used water cooling for the CPU).
3. A better CPU with E0 stepping. I have a Willamette Celeron with E0 stepping which overclocks about 200MHz higher than the Pentium 4 I used. See picture below.
What could also be done; Run the individual benchmarks in 3DMark 2001 one at the time until you get the best results in each allowing your computer to cool down in between possibly allowing for higher overclocks. Maybe this can be done in 3DMark 2000 as well(?)
