I've got a Sound Blaster PCI128 in an old Pentium 2 400mhz system running Win98. The drivers are installed (after a bit of a hassle with Windows not believing my PCI128 drivers were for this new PCI Multimedia unknown device) but when I go to play sound you can't hear anything. I looked at the volume control and the levels are jumping...just no sound coming out. When you turn the computer on and off the speakers make a noise too so I know my speakers and the card's output are working.
Also when you change the volume levels in the volume control the system framerate slows down tremendously until you let go of the mouse button. Maybe that has something to do with it?
Any help would be nice. I remember this card working perfectly fine before I put it into this machine. I've also since tried an Audigy 2 card and the sound works fine....if I have to I'll try putting the PCI128 in another computer just to verify where the problem actually lies. I hope it just lies with the drivers somehow.....This is the only card I have that works with DOS games. The custom Audigy 2 DOS drivers I found don't work at all.
