I had to replace a dead S7 mainboard and got as replacement the GA-586ATX rev 3.0 (printed on the board). It is still on 1.0A bios.
This should be the board:
https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/gigaby … ga-586atx-rev-3
There are plenty of bioses as .bin files listed, but no pack contains patcher or instructions. I downloaded the latest 4.0 version.
Going back to revision 2.0, I found a download with a .bin and a small 28kB file named AF771.exe in it.

Is the AF771.exe a patcher? Can I expect user interaction?
I'd boot from floppy, run AF771.exe, see if I can first save the old bios and then flash the new latest rev3 bios (4.0). Or should I do it differently?

And while on bioses, is there a bios which sets/limits a UDMA2 flag for this board? (to get dma check in win98se)

Thanks for help.

Go to Gigabyte's official website and download motherboard_bios_ga-586atx3_4.0.exe, which contains 5atx3_40.bin (BIOS itself), AWDFLASH.EXE (flasher), and an autoexec.bat that contains only one incorrect command line:

flash860 5atx3_40.bin

Same goes to motherboard_bios_ga-586atx2_2.3.exe of GA-586ATX2 (flasher is AF771.EXE):

flash860 5ATX2_23.BIN

Only the motherboard_bios_ga-586atx_2.0.exe of GA-586ATX was correct:

af535a.exe 5atx_20.bin

In any case, just use respective flasher for each MB revision; forget about those autoexec.bat.

Thanks for helping out. Got the rev3 files.
Can I use the flasher to save the old bios to disk first? Like start it without parameters?
I'll give it a try when back home.

AFAIK that's a built-in function of AWDFLASH.EXE; step-by-step manuals can be found over the Web.
