I don't remember exactly how it's done. And I don't have the laptop on hand now.
scpena.exe doesn't have obvious switches for that. I vaguely remember it sets it automatically, and 330 is the first in priority, other ports are chosen if 330 cannot be set for some reason. I also remember loading PCMCIA resource map utility DICRMU01.SYS along with usual SS/CS.

Dell Latitude Xpi & Sager 8500 especially two laptops where port always set to 370, which makes it necessary to change port manually in Duke 3D config file, cause setup.exe limited to up to 360.
By the way, I tried rebuild Wolfdosmpu source, replacing 330 to 370 & it does not help. So probably this game just not compatible with SCP-55.

16bit and 32bit, based on the ISA and PCI bus.
16bit cards will work in a Cardbus slots, 32bit cards won't fit in a 16bit slot. Then comes ExpressCard, there are adapters for ExpressCard cards to Cardbus for adventurous people.
There are some 16bit/32bit cards with a little dipswitch on them to change the mode, I know a few scsi and ide/pata cards that have this.
Yeah, the Notebook ZS card has different drivers than the PCI ones.
Thanks! 😀
I got that cable btw!! Thanks again! Bondi
Cool, I'm glad you got it. Wonder what you use it for. EAX games?
For now, collecting reasons. 😀 will see what future holds.
Well, who's after an IBM 3D Sound Card? There is one on ebay now. Will sell for very high.
Got this interface card for Zenith Z-Player ZDS ADR-0200 unit. Cards are much rarer than the unit itself. There are several units for sale on ebay, so need to get one. Zenith also sold an interface card to connect it to a desktop PC. It has a built-in sound card, but it only works in Windows. CD works in DOS as well.
I also enclose the drivers.
Inside a (non-functional) Panasonic CF-VEW211. CIS chip is apparently dead or wiped, maybe worse.

Interesting. Why do you think it's the CIS chip?
There is a dump of the CIS of this particular card somewhere in this topic. In theory it can be replaced and reprogrammed.

That is on my list of little side projects to try. I did try to read the chip a while back (hence opening the card), but think i need to adapt a CH341A.
Here's what DTPL generates for the card. It could be more than just the CIS chip, it was just a junk untested card on Yahoo.

Yes, it makes sense to read the CIS directly form the chip to see if it's the interface chip is bad or it's the CIS chip. Hope it's not the former, as could not find anything about that MEI PIA on the internet.
Found the drivers needed for the exp soundnote 16 however I can't seem to get the card configured properly so no music on mpu-401 but adlib and SB FM seem to work anyone know
What the correct configuration on cardsofts configure utility for IO ports ?

I think the Soundnote doesn’t have mpu-401 functionality. It supports only FM in DOS. And can provide digital sound in a few games that support non-DMA SB mode.
There was an optional game port add-on for the Soundnote+CD kit. But still not sure it supports MIDI.
I have a near complete in box .WAVjammer that is missing the dongle. I've had this for years but have been unable to locate a replacement.
Does anyone happen to have a loose dongle for this or know the pinout to make a new one?
I've attached some photos of the box here for posterity.

Sorry to say this, but Wavjammer dongle is one of the most difficult ones to reproduce.
It has a complicated external part. I think you’ve opened a topic about it, and there are pictures of its internals.
As for the connector, looks like this Bus Toaster uses the came connector(no guarantees though, I haven’t counted the pins and done a detailed comparison). So if you could track down one for cheap, you’d have a compatible cable at least. Note that not all Bus Toasters are the same, some are type 2 and use a different connector. While type 1 cards seem to use the same connector as the WJ.

Edit: now that I looked closer, the Bus Toaster connector looks a bit wider.

Thank so you so much bondi 😉 so I guess I'm all setup then correctly

what is the card?
what is "multimedia" mean? This one took long to answer. It is the interface card for Zenith Z-player - external double speed CD-ROM unit with two built in stereo speakers and ESS based 16-bit sound card (W311 and W95)

zenith z player.jpgI just got one of these Zenith units.. but without the interface card 🙁
There is the ISA version of the Zenith Z-player interface card for sale on Amazon for just $14.50

Bought this card recently. As mentioned above in this topic, this a Windows 3.11 card, but can work in W95 as well.
It can play WAV and MIDI files. Midi synthesis is done by software (V-synth). I attach a couple of samples. There are some errors in the playback, but overall it sounds not too bad, actually. Volume is a bit low in the beginning of first track, sorry for that.
I have one of these. I thought that mine was defective until I realized that the midi synthesizer was running in software mode. My poor 486 was choking on it.
I feel that putting a software synthesizer on a PCMCIA card is somewhat self-defeating and a grave disappointment. It's often the older laptops with weaker CPUs that are the ones missing sound cards and where these upgrades are most useful.
The documentation for this card or on the box (I can't remember which) mentions a larger dongle that can be ordered separately. A pity it didn't come standard. This product feels like it cut a lot of corners to save on cost.

Yeah, the software solution is far form ideal in case of 486 laptops. Even their "Hurricane architecture" (which is supposed to be fast due to interaction via memory window, like video RAM) didn't help. The limitation is on the CPU side.
Yes, the dongle had MIDI connectors, but I've never seen it.
Funnily, here is the guy who developed that synthesizer.

How you can change port for SCP-55 in MS-DOS?
Just fired up my SCP-55. It selects port 0330 automatically.
I load just SC/SS, DICRMU01.SYS and scpena.exe. No EMM386.

It's depends of laptop & card service config.
