I have recently installed Win98 onto a SHUTTLE XPC SN45G-V2 but Ive found the nForce2 drivers on the shuttle web site are quite unstable in Win98.
The system crashes with an error about kmixer.

Is there s a fix for this or alternative drivers from
Audio driver version 4.31
audio utility version 4.31
Ethernet driver version 4.16
GART driver version 3.77 (WHQL)
Memory controller driver version 3.38 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files
SMBus driver version 4.04 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files
Installer version 4.31

I had good results with the nForce 4.27 driver package with Win98 SE, very stable system.

Cheers.
Do you have a link to the one you use?
Mine seems to be throwing up all different errors. I had one about vfat too.

It's not happy on the one off the web site, but Im using a 40gb disk now after that vfat error and I fdisked it and format using the Win98 floppy

Yes I grabbed it straight from nVidia here - https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults … spx/1169/en-us/

Thanks. Ill try that.

The sound works on mine with the drivers mentioned above.

Speaking of sound, I'd recommend putting a proper card in there. I had some issues with some games, from glitches in Midtown Madness to no sound at all in Black Hawk Down.

Wont be possible as I will have an Adaptec SCSI controller in the PCI slot to control my CD Changer.
I could use a Creative Extigy. But I was rather looking forward to using the onboard sound as it has optical out which will go straight into my HiFi amp.

One of the 512Mb sticks of RAM I was using failed memtest86.

swapped it out and having another go at it all.

No it didnt.

Windows 98 really doesnt like the audio driver.
It keeps giving me VFAT errors when ever I install the driver.
If I keep the audio disabled in the BIOS the error seems to stop.

I dont think its a hardware problem, as it seems to work fine under WinME... I think its a Win98 driver problem.
What do you think?

Ill run memtest86 on the remaining stick of RAM. It passed ok on the first test, but I did only run one pass on it.
Other than that Im not sure.

I have the drivers you linked to...
The graphics are ATi drivers I found on PhilsComputerLab page, 6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314
The card is an Tyan Tachyon G9600 Pro, I also have an Adaptec AHA-2940UW Pro in there.

When I was building the SN45 for my friend I had issues trying to run memory in dual channel. The modules would pass memtest ok when installed individually, but failed when in dual channel. The solution to that was knocking back the speed and running the memory at 166/333MHz. It might also be that the particular modules you have just don't like running together in dual channel.

The other thing I'm wondering is if that SCSI card is having some kind of conflict with the sound chip. Otherwise I don't know what else to suggest. I agree it does seem like it could be drivers if it's ok in other operating systems. There's a chance your SN45 is a different revision to the one I built so what worked for me may well not for you.

Yeah I seem to be having some problems with this that are getting worse not better.
I cant seem to install WinME now without it crashing out with IFSMGR errors...

The drivers for the onboard sound do nothing but crash Win98, and I havent been able to make a stable install of ME with them so far either.

So far on this try. Ive turned off all none used devices, IDE1 (only have 1 HDD on Chan0), no Serial or Parallel, no Audio, LAN or Firewire.
CPU set as a 3200+ using 200FSB. The RAM is set to 200 and it set by SPD.
Messing about with any of the CPU RAM settings didnt seem to make any difference the last set of attempts I made, Memtest86 always passes and it made no difference to the errors WinME was throwing up.

But this time around with everything disabled Ive managed to get WIn98 installed again and its stable enough, Ive managed to install some software, Nero 6, which is a big install that tests RAM and HDD use. It also just managed to defrag the HDD, which is also something it fails on when the audio drivers are installed.

The only change I will make now it turn on the onboard audio and install the drivers and see if its still stable.

After a long days night Ive sorted out the system. I installed WinME and it works fine, it passes 3DMark 2000.
Which means the hardware works. So it is a problem with software of some kind in Win98.

Defiantly a problem with the sound drivers on Windows 98.
dxdiag fails to create the sound, but Windows navigation, start up and Exit sounds work.

Doesn't seem to want to play nice with an Extigy either, and that's with the creative CD...

Is the SB0100 SB Live 5.1 any good?

Or the Extigy2 with the external breakout box

Have you checked the motherboard for bad caps, or anything else not quite right?

The SB0100 is a fine card (details on here http://www.dosdays.co.uk/topics/sb_live.php), it will work with Joesph's driver guide here - Guide: Installing Windows 9x and DOS drivers on Sound Blaster Live! cards (version 3.1)

It all looks perfectly fine to me. Its a real time warp machine. The guy I bought it off said it was never used, and it certainly looks that way, no dust or anything.
I think Im just struggling with drivers.
I got the SB0100 in and it works just fine. The whole machine does, it just doesnt have the hardware in it that I want.
I just ordered a USB sound card off ebay, im going to see if that will work with 98. But for now its working with a Matrox G450 and a Creative SB0100.

Under Windows ME the whole system works perfectly fine. Or at least dxdiag says it does

Got it all working now...
As it turns out a cheap no name USB sound card solved my problems.

Just need to decide what video card to settle on as it has a Rage Fury Pro ViVo right now.
