hi

I am confused about which cache chips and TAG to get for a 486 motherboard.

this is the motherboard - https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/msi-ms … 131-vlb-486-al2

it says it can do 128bk and 256kb cache. Currently 4 of the 8 sockets are populated and shows 128bk cache.

is it best to get 8 of the same chip than mixing with what I have?

Would these work ?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007173170307.html

not sure what different there is between the UM61256FK-15 and UM61256K-15 in the listing?

Also what Tag chip do I need to use to make the 8 work and where do I get one ? eg what am I looking for on AliExpress ?

thank you in advance.

If You read the manual on the retroweb it will answer Your questions.

Just get the FK chips. Chances are the writing on the chips has been reprinted, but there seems to be no datasheet for a K only cache chip.
The Tag according to the manual is the same as the other chips, even the photo shows that.
Also if You try ordering 10 from that seller the postage goes up dramatically.
They are cheap, so just buy 9 of them.

Atari 2600, TI994a, Vic20, c64, ZX Spectrum 128, Amstrad CPC464, Atari 65XE, Commodore Plus/4, Amiga 500
PC's from XT 8088, 486, Pentium MMX, K6, Athlon, P3, P4, 775, to current Ryzen 5600x.
