Hi, I have read so many topics here and am totally confused.
What I have found out is that OEM cards have problems with drivers and sometimes missing features.
So what I want is a Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card for my dual boot Win 98SE and XP system (P4, Athlon XP, Athlon64 Systems).

After reading the posts here it seems to me that the SB0060 and SB0100 are not OEM cards and will work well with creative own drivers?
Found a retail driver disk for the SB0100 here: https://archive.org/details/sound-blaster-sb0100-retail-disc
So it's not OEM? Or is it even worse and there are OEM and retail versions of the SB0100?

Also I need the 5.1 option as I use a 5.1 sound system. Also the price should be low. I don't need a super special card. The Live 5.1 seems ok for the price.
So i think the audigy cards are out cause of missing 5.1 support.
Im just confused becuase of this OEM stuff and dont want loose features like EAX or something cuase of taking an OEM card 😖

Can anyone tell me which of the Live 5.1 cards are non OEM and will work with original/retail creatives driver and full feature set?

Small update:
Found right now a video and a commet by the creator: https://youtu.be/z-HiLp5p820?si=KgfC6lxoVvUT62dK
"SB0100 works with the usual driver CDs and that's what matters 😀"
So sounds for me its supported by official driver CD and supports all feature set like SB0060?

One thing I can tell you for sure is to avoid the SB0200 as it is a cut down budget card. The SB0220 is fine (other than being easy to mix up with the SB0200), I have one and have had no issues with it. The drivers for that card can be an issue, but Vogons has the proper drivers for it thanks to KT7A Guy, so you can install the preferred VXD drivers in Win98. Other than the already mentioned SB0200, I'm not aware of any issues with OEM Live! cards.

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

Audigy cards support 5.1 and can also support 7.1 and you can avoid the driver mess.

You also have the fact that Live! only gives you EAX 2, Audigy gives you EAX 3 and Audigy 2 EAX 4
Given your running WinXP this may be of benefit depending on your games

If you do want to keep to the live! though generally
SB0060 and SB0100 are the full version.
SB0200 is the "fake" Dell card with missing features and does everything in software
SB0220 is the "good" Dell card that is a fully function card but requires the special drivers

Thx for the reply
Which Audigy Cards would be the best for 5.1 and Win98SE and XP dualboot?

I have several Live! cards, I don't know all of the numbers, but I can vouch for the SB0220. I've used one in several Windows98 SE machines using the drivers from Vogons and I've had no issues with the card itself (sometimes the usual fooling around often necessary with older Via chipset motherboards) and the EAX had worked fine in games such as Half-Life and Return to castle Wolfenstein.

Seems Audigy 2 ZS is good... bur more rare and expensive. Found a model with colored connectors (white and green) on the PCB and Code: SB0350.
Was there also OEM versions with only OEM drivers?

If your looking at just the ZS models then all cards will be the full version SB0350, Only difference between products was bundled software and optional front I/O bays.
It's a very good card IMHO

If looking at the Audigy 2 (no ZS) cards you also have
SB0400 Audigy 2 Value: Fully functional card that just lacks firewire, Surprisingly the ZS is more common and not much price difference.

SB0570 Audigy 2 SE: Budget card that uses software. Avoid this one

A final update.

I ordered some of the Live! 5.1 SB 0060 and SB0100 and also of the Audigy 2 ZS (SB0350)
The Audigy 2 ZS seems to be really nice cards.

But attention! I also got some OEM SB0350 with golden jacks and labled as SB0350 but the SN includes a SB0358 and there is a green connector on the front. They are OEMs 😒
Avoid them cause the creative driver CD wont detect them 😖

Don’t know if this is still relevant, but it is possible to force install the drivers for SB0358/59 if they are not detected, more in this thread
