If I still lived in Estonia I could be an option, but now I'm in Norway and since it is not in EU there's all the extra taxes and postal service here is totally insanely expensive too...

But photos of the PCB and knowing of part numbers can go a long way in that detective work I mentioned. But there's still need for someone to actually solder stuff eventually (or at least adapt the wiring).

Well, now that the case with the seller is closed, I can do what I please with the unit, including disassembling it fully and inspect the PCB from all angles. I'll see if I can do it this weekend, if I can slide it in between OCing my XP box.

I'm definitely keen to see photos of the other boards, especially to know what kind of mechanism is used to switch the video signals.

Pretty sure it's all done digitally. There are no physical buttons on the unit, and for that 60 seconds it lasted I was able to open the KVM menu from wich you can switch computer (there were still the names leftover from the previous user).
The manual does confirm that it's all done with a video interface that can be brought up with the "print screen" button (at least on the mode l have, other models may have different buttons), and you can customize names for every input and other details, and save all of your custom settings in rom.

Yup, pretty common. And why I'm happy with my HPe KVM - it supports hotkeys, but also has physical buttons 😉

Hope you find a way to fix your unit!

The controls are digital, with a MCU probably involved but the actual switching of video is all analog business. There are a few ways that can be done and I'm curious about which way they chose. All the cheap KVMs use a simple transistor based switching method but it produces impedance mismatch and often loss of bandwidth, leading to soft image with ghosting. This one is more elaborate and I imagine it uses CMOS switches or maybe even some purpose built chips from likes of Analog Devices.

This makes me think... Maybe it's an analog component of the switching system that failed? I remember I was in the KVM menu when I heard the noise and smelled the smoke... Gotta take apart the PCB and inspect it for good.
