I hate that this is considered "retro" now but I'm in my mid 30s and decided to recreate an idealized version of my first homebuilt PC. I know that most everything on here is from the 80s and 90s era but I figured I'd share it anyway
Monitor and desk are actually my original ones. I owned the G15 keyboard and mx518 back in the day but I had to track those down since mine were long gone.
CASE: Thermaltake Xaser III
Intel Core 2 extreme QX6850 3.0 GHz
4gb Corsair dominator DDR 2 1066 xms2-8500
2x EVGA Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT superclocked edition
4x Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM SATA 2 drives in 2 RAID 1 arrays (I should know better but they're refurbs and I have a backup drive just in case)
Logitech MX 518 optical gaming mouse
Logitech gen 1 G15 keyboard
Red Alert 2 mousepad
I've been talking with some Gen Z retro tech guys and windows XP era gear is the new big thing. This must be what it felt like for everyone who grew up in the DOS era responding to the youngbloods on here back in the mid 2000s
My other systems:
Hewitt Rand 386. Windows 3.11, 8mb of RAM, am386 33mhz, surprisingly large 160mb kalok HDD, nothing special but it belonged to my grandfather so I have a sentimental attachment to it. Matching Startech printer
Mac SE/30 in dire need of a recap but otherwise amazingly well documented and original
Apple IIGS. Pretty much stock, has a RAM expansion card and original documentation/boxes since it belonged to my Dad
Random old win95 Gateway tower with a pII that I saved from being used as a door stop (funny story for another time) . I stuck a voodoo III in it years ago but had to sell the peripherals when I moved internationally.
1997 Dell Latitude LM laptop. It's in rough shape but it works.
