Hi.

I would like to build a p4 for late ms-dos games and win9x games. I need a compromise between those two OS.

More or less i´ve decided all components but the sound card.

I must choose between a sound blaster live 5.1 PCI and a Terratec Aureon 5.1 PCI.

Wich one do you think would be better mainly for DOS ?

Isn't the Terratec Aureon SB 2.0 and SB pro compatible only? While you'd be getting SB16 + General Midi (+MT32) emulation with the Live. Seems like a pretty obvious one to me... Unless I am missing something?

If the Aureon uses the CMI8738, then don't plan on playing anything in pure DOS...

Aureon 5.1 is 8738. I know a friend who still had one and it uses a 8738 chipset so I wouldn't count it to do DOS even if its life depended on it. SB Live will do it just fine.

Does Terratec Aureon 5.1 PCI have any advantage over live in win9x ?

Maybe if you have it connected through optical output to a receiver... Which would require Live Drive or a daughterboard for the Live! card.
