I don't see what the fuss is about with this, assuming one is interested in DOS gaming and demo watching. Sound support is going to be a big problem (as reports already demonstrate) and there's no ISA slot to compensate. I'd bet that most DOS demos will either not have sound or have serious sound issues. Also forget about software that's optimized for GUS. Shame really.

While you're entitled to your opinion, please read our community standards. As others have already mentioned it's not in good spirit to come in like this.

I just receive by group buy 2 board and was wondering if anyone has a link for a fan to use for the cpu?

I used a Noctua 40x10mm fan. NF-A4x10 FLX. Nice and quiet.

Speaking of Demos, Second Reality’s audio now works under the latest version of FreeDOS on the ITX Llama. Under MSDos it’s a total mess with mostly pops, clicks and whistles.

Nice! Does Crystal Dreams II audio also work better with FreeDos?

Was it the 5V or 12 V version of the fan?

12V version. But the ITX board can run either as there is a jumper for voltage setting.

Sadly no. Still lots of clicks and pops in the audio on it.

Quite interesting and unexpected. Any idea why this in particular works better in the latest version of FreeDOS? Any specific changes or improvements to FreeDOS that resulted in this working better?

From what I've read so far, usually it's MS-DOS that works best, being the original OS that was actually used back in the day.

Have you tested Win98 (7.1) DOS with that game? Ideally I'd like to use the same FAT32 enabled MSDOS for everything, unless FreeDOS is simply better.

It’s a pretty clever project. I love what they did with the bios boot floppies, sound cards, storage, etc.

The PCI-e to PCI to AGP setup is a curious choice. Why didn’t they just stick with PCI? Doesn’t seem like it is getting full AGP performance but they are getting the NVidia AGP on PCI compatibility issues. Doesn’t seem like they have enough CPU to run games that require AGP bandwidth even if they had AGP bandwidth.

Was there a downside of doing a PCI interface instead? Maybe with a bios setting that lets you chance the PCI clock speed for extra performance?

I think it's just harder to find PCI graphics cards

Maybe. That’s certainly true if you are looking for 3dfx, but anything 3dfx is kind of hard to find.

PCI? Amazon sells new chinese PCI Rage cards for less than $20 and S3 PcI cards are still easy to find.

Sounds like the Llama board scales between a 386-40 and a Pentium 233. What video card < $100 would you want to pair with that CPU that would do DOS and Win98?
