Perhaps Jetway intended to release support for Prescott CPUs later on (if, say, the board was released before they were available), but probably just didn't.

I figured as much... It seems to be released too early for the Prescott core. I'm thinking a future BIOS update was planned for support, but never came to be as the product got phased out for something else. Not a big deal, as I have other Prescott boards and plenty of Northwood processors, just thought it was weird considering other sources online said it should be compatible.

Nice! 1-up 👍 for Hi-Pro from me too. They are well-designed and solid PSUs all around, often with very low noise & ripple on the output.

They are definitely some of my favorite, most reliable power supplies from that time. A lot of times they don't even need recapped! They're mostly either Teapo or Jamicon which, pre-2002 at least, seem to be alright. But in most cases, they're a fairly easy recap job and it's still definitely worth it since you're going to prolong their lifespan. I'm not fond of using modern power supplies on old PCs, so keeping the old-but-good ones in working order is my ideal route.

The question is, are you brave enough to try it? 😀
Or maybe the latest official bios can be modified - based on the fixes from the PT8MS version ?

I might actually try it just because I don't care about this board hahah. It's not very good. I mostly wanted to get it running with Prescott so I could humor myself torturing it with insane heat output/stress testing and inadequate cooling. I have my AB-IS7 if I want a decent S478 board. I also don't feel bad about ruining the board because it's already screwed up beyond fixing in certain aspects.

The only place I ever saw them used last was RDRAM based P4 and I think some early SDRAM based 478 boards (Aopen AX4Bs comes to mind). By the time 845 became standard it was phased out, as far as I remember.

This Jetway is still the newest board I've seen that has it. I think they stopped making them sometime in 2004. Still have no idea what the point was for them, probably just brought in as a weird "just in case" solution as CPUs rapidly advanced towards the new millennium
