So, I got a nice XT system however it onyl comes with a 9pin monitor output and so I would like to output the image to my VGA CRT monitor.
I have done bit of googling and basically people say that I can use most 16bit video cards and put them in the 8bit slot, it will overhang but no issues, should be working perfectly fine.
so i went out and bought this specific VGA ISA card as its supposed to work and does not require jumpering.
I plugged it in and the moment I turned on the PC, I got loud pop and one of the components blew up. I quickly turned the PC off and removed the card. I think the PC is still working as its starts ok and makes usual booting sounds etc.
However, the card is probably dead, see photos of the card and the part the exploded. It was quite the fireworks.
So my question is, which card can I use ? I have few more ISA cards but afraid to put them in so I dont damage them. I can post images of all of them if that helps.
