Hello all! I've been lurking here all week and I've thoroughly enjoyed the site. I got a retro PC on marketplace and I'm stoked to use it. It came with windows 3.1 and some software. However the CD drive wasn't working and the sound card wasn't being detected. I decided someone had been messing about with this unit before I got it and I wanted a fresh start. I've done everything I can to handle the software issues myself. I have freshly installed dos 6.22 and I've tried multiple drivers to install my soundcard. I think I have the right one now, it's a Packard bell oem driver I found online. However I cannot get it to see the CD-ROM. I know CD-ROM is good as before I formatted it the machine was working with cdrom but not sound. I had to reconnect the CD drive to the sound card to get it to work hence I know someone was tinkering before me as it was unplugged . That is why I decided to start from scratch. Anyways, it seems to be an Aztec nova 16 however I could definitely be wrong. Pic is attached. Had to scratch off the Packard bell stickers to see the chips. Drive is a cr-563-b

How are you loading the CD-ROM and sound card drivers in config.sys and autoexec.bat? There are usually 2 parts of the driver for the CD-ROM, the manufacturer device driver is loaded in config.sys and then MSCDEX or SHSUCDX is loaded in autoexec.bat to connect the device to a drive letter. The name of the optical device has to match in both commands and whatever name you use can't match any file on the hard drive. The usual choice is OPTICAL or MSCD001.

I used an install that said it was for my drive and it used cdmke in config and mscdex mscd0001 in autoexec.bat. this is why I'm questioning if I got the sound card right as it should be loading. Is there any way to know I have the right drivers?

It looks like I would need windows 3.1 installed to configure it from what the site says. That's frustrating but doable

No easy find for drivers for the one I found earlier but I do notice the one you linked is for Aztec 1605 and I have 2316. I'll give it a shot anyways because the card is so darn similar .

https://www.dosdays.co.uk/topics/Manufacturer … ds.php#N16EII3D - This might hit the spot then, not quite the exact model, but 2316
