My friend gave me an AWE64 Gold, model CT4390, which is a faulty card. The problem is that the left channel is normal, but there is no sound output on the right channel. I tried to connect the left and right channel outputs of TDA1387 directly to the speakers, but there was still no sound output on the right channel. Then I replaced the TDA1387 chip and repeated the previous test, and the result was the same. Does this mean that there is no right channel data in the digital signal output from CT8903, which means that the CT8903 chip is damaged? I don't understand the structure of the AWE64 sound card. If it is a fault of CT1703 or CT1745A, will this result result?

I hope someone can tell me the next step for repair.

Have tried connecting the two pins with a bodge wire?

I'm not well-versed with the AWE64 Gold specifically, but I know the SB16 architecture quite well. On the SB16, both the A/D and the D/A conversion for standard digitized sound is performed in the CT1703 (or the older CT1701) chip. The TDA1387 is possibly for the AWE synthesized music only. The CT1745 is a digitally programmable analog mixer chip. The sound from the different sources (CD in, digitized sound, synthesized music) is passed through that chip before it is passed to the card's output. Unless the input of the right channel is shorted to ground, that chip should not be able to kill the analog right channel signal.

You might want to test whether the "right channel dead" issue affects all types of sound or it is limited to some of the sources. This helps you reduce whether the issue is before or after the CT1745A.

TDA1387 is only for EMU8000/FM output, SB side comes from the CT1703 as on SB16 and other AWE cards. The analog section is basically same as other SB16 cards too, using the same mixer chip and same general support circuitry.

But yeah, like mkarcher said, you should see if the right channel is missing on everything or only some select things.
