I'm opening a single thread for both problems.

A7V600-x system, Windows 98SE, 512MB DDR, Philips 107E21/20Z CRT monitor (drivers unavailable, I use Windows standards). The problems occur with both DirectX 7.0a and DirectX 8.1. AGP 4x/8x set in the BIOS depending on the card.
Drivers were obviously removed before replacing them and/or the GPU.

GeForce FX5200 128MB 64-bit AGP8X problem:

Using the 45.23 drivers, I'm having issues with monitor geometry distortion when playing some games, such as Deus Ex 1, FIFA 98, and Motocross Madness 1. One game that works flawlessly is Quake 3. Basically, the display shifts and distorts as if it needs to be adjusted, but the problem doesn't occur when using Windows.

So I tried the 81.98 drivers, and the geometry issue was resolved. Some games in the menu still work flawlessly, but when I start a game, the screen remains black.

At that point, I thought about replacing the GPU and installing a Radeon 9000 Pro, 64 MB, 128-bit AGP4X, but the problem immediately appeared:

Without drivers, the card works. However, if I install the drivers (tried with 4.3 and 6.2), the screen goes black during Windows startup. This card probably needs some capacitors replaced; I noticed some smudges around them. Could capacitors cause this problem?

Thanks!

Seems like games uses diffirent refresh rates and you need to adjust it to each resolution and refresh rate . Or use programms to lock refresh rate such power strip, rivatuner etc

DOS: 166mmx/16mb/Y719/S3virge
DOS/95: PII333/128mb/AWE64/TNT2M64
Win98: P3 900/256mb/SB live/3dfx V3
Win Me: Athlon 1333/256mb/Audigy2/Geforce 2 GTS
Win XP: E8500/4096mb/SB X-fi/Quadro fx 4500

im pretty sure this is just normal for some monitors one of mine does it, there should be a button/option on the monitor to centre the screen, as for the black screen issue, first thing id check is your bios, if theres an option for "cache video bios" or "shadow video bios" turn them both off, i had the same issue with black screens, games not loading, poor performance, and this was the problem, though after disabling them windows wouldnt boot so i had to do a fresh install.

Solved with powerstrip, have locked refresh rate. thanks!
