I recently built a socket 7 motherboard out of a DFI 586ITOX motherboard.
The problem I am facing is that the power LED is on even though the computer is shut down. I am almost starting to suspect that the is something hardware related and I am out of ideas.

Does anyone have a clue what can be at fault here?

The QDI Titanium IB+ has a similar issue.

On that board, it can be worked around as per the instructions here. Not sure if that's applicable to your board as well, but it might be worth a shot.

Looking at the manual for that DFI 586ITOX board, it looks like it may be a multi-use LED. I suggest looking into what joseph suggested. That's where I would start.

The manual can be found here: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/dfi-586itox#docs

It seems there are a couple options to plug in that LED on the board? It seems to also double as a temp warning LED.
