Hello dues Im wondering if some of you might know whats causing this?

Notice the menu DOES NOT FIT THE APPLET and the 3 check boxs are not boxs!

http://img1.pixhost.to/images/10277/662574889_capture.png

If I bootup in safe mode every menu displays right so its gonna be a driver I assume Since safe mode uses different drivers.....

The first time this happend I simply deleted "shelliconcache" and it fixed itself but not this time.......

This is Win98se and everything in device manager says all stuff is working OK so it must be a driver file but I dont know which one!!

Thanx guys 😀

What caused this effect? Perhaps you replaced your graphics card. Which graphics card do you have?

Which bit graphics setting 16 bit ,24bit, or 32bit?
Safe mode I think is either 8 bit or 16bit basic graphics driver.
I’ve had random bugs when installing the wrong driver that look similar

Its always been set to HIGH COLOUR 16 BIT

The adapter setting is set to SMALL FONTS (96dpi)

Thanx for your help guys!!

Ya I would think its some driver getting corrupted or something if everything is fine in safe mode...

800x600 but that wouldnt affect the check boxs would it?

I have tried 640x840 and the menu problem remains.......

Have you tried removing graphics card from Device Manager in Safe Mode, and then booting into normal mode and letting Windows rediscover it?

Check the Appearance section in Display Properties. One of the options there has to do with how large the buttons are.

Install the microsoft core fonts.

This looks like missing Marlett and Tahoma, and possibly wrong UI scaling.

Marlett is used to draw radio buttons, checkboxes and pals.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/ … nt-list/marlett

Normally these get installed when you install/update internet explorer, and if they are not present, windows tries font substitutions.

Just check to be sure that these fonts are indeed present:

Symbol
Marlett
Tahoma
Arial
MS Sans

A great many early Visual C projects and Visual Basic projects implicitly rely on the kerning and metrics of these fonts to display correctly, so these are very important to have.

Thank you..

I have Marlett,Tahoma,Aerial and Ms Sans.. Ill have to see if Symbol is there...

I havent tried to remove 'display adapter' from device manager yet... Im afraid to messing something up!!

Just restoring yesterdays registry will put it back right? (If I remove it and something screws up I can just do scanreg/restore from dos and bring it back)

Worst case scenario, just reinstall Windows 98SE and you should be good to go.

I just looked closer and the only TTF file I didnt have was micross.ttf -- I put it in the fonts folder but it didnt make any difference... The buttons, check boxs are still not right...

This is really confusing. Are there any good 98 programs that will examine my setup and make needed changes???

Like one time I had a program that asked me if I wanted to hide my OS from the User agent.. I picked yes and it took my OS out of the string...

I have tweak UI but I dont think that will fix THIS issue but im not sure...

"Thank you.. 98se is a beautiful OS!!" I thought it was passable for its time. Lots of weird glitches and crashes. I once had my pc stuck in DOS mode because of some setting in msdos.sys (which apparently had become a config file).

As to the op's issues, I'd try reinstalling the graphics driver. At worst you will need to reinstall the os. Something I had to do many times with this "beauty". Ahem.
