Hello,

On this page, http://chukaev.ru54.com/video_en.htm there is a bios with VBE 1.2 and VBE 2.0 support for many S3 cards but not the Trio64V+ (86C765), there is only VBE 1.2 versions available. I was wondering if there is a reason for that or there is VBE 2.0 rom to download elsewhere as I would like to upgrade the card if possible.

I would also like to put an VBE 2.0 BIOS on the Cirrus Logic cards with a model number CL-GD5446BV-HC-A (I think the BV might be ignored for the ROM). There is a bios with VBE 1.2 support and, again, I would like to know if it's possible to upgrade that to VBE 2.0. The CL-GD5446 BIOS on that page is 1.25 and the one I have is 1.37 so I expect it not to support VBE 2.0 : https://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/cpu/item … logic-cl-gd5446

Bye, thank you !

That page doesn't seem to say anything about the VBE version. How are you determining which rom supports which VBE? Are you flashing each one to the card to test?

Yes eddman, that's what I did, but I eventually end up figuring a pattern where major BIOS version number change from 1 to 2, the VBE does the same. I then use HWiNFO to check it out.

Hi, I only have VBE 2.0 bios for Trio64v2/DX:
- ASUS PCI-V775V2 S3 86C775 Video BIOS. Version 2.04.07-40
- ELSA WINNER 1000/T2D VBE 2.0 DDC2B DPMS Video BIOS Ver. 6.01.00
- generic S3 86C775/86C785 Video BIOS. Version 2.04.07

In attachment.
Each of them works successfully in my S3 trio64 V2/DX card of an unknown manufacturer (after writing to the 27SF256 chip)

86c775_2.zip from that page supports VBE 2.0, at least that's what it says when I check it in 86box.

Oh no, you are both right, eddman and zyga64, I made a mistake and listed wrong video card. The problematic one is S3 Trio64V+ (86765). I'm not sure there is an VBE2.0 BIOS update for the S3 Trio64/V+ as it was an earlier model, but since there is an TSR utility to allow it maybe there is a bios hack somewhere.

I will update the thread title and I also feel terribly sorry to have made you waste some times 🙁

I'm affraid that there is no VBE2.0 BIOS update for the S3 Trio64/V+ available. I wasn't able to find any so far:(

With how easy it is these days to both flash a chip and find documentation on the S3 chips, isn't it about time we had new custom VBE2.0 bioses for the models that never got them rather than still relying on TSRs?
