Just read this in the news (it's 3 days old):
https://www.theregister.com/2026/01/12/window … _portugal_rail/

Portugal? Isn't that in Spain? 🤔

The pictures are definitely in Portugal. TheRegister is not known for making mistakes and they got it right once again.

My bad, I have a poor sense of humour (sometimes)! 😅

I meant to imply that Portugal is a region within Spain, as a tiny joke or sideblow.
As if some says: Austria? Isn't that in(side) Germany? 😉
(Or: Belgium? Isn't that in France?)

Anyway, it just came to mind as a random idea.
It's probably a bit too silly to be instantly understood, I guess. 😅

The actual news itself is very positive, too, I think. Windows 2000 was a fine, reliable OS. 🙂
It's the older brother of both Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (also fine).

Yes! 😃

Windows 3.x was very popular in embedded once over here.
Siemens etc. used it in early 90s. We used to be very Microsoft obsessed, I guess (except for the Amiga users).
And the ICE (our TGV counterpart) was from the 80s, originally, so even older.

Doesnt surprise me in the least.
At work we have some "machines" that control ...
Hard to describe them without telling you but they are basically its a "glue" dispensing machine. its large, hydraulic and now quite old.
Its been in use since since the early 2000s, it still runs what looks like a version of Win NT4. But the other machines run Win2k, or a stripped down version of it that as soon as the machine turns on the control screen shows its splash from the manufactures and then a desktop that immediately fires up the control software.
The latest machines use WinXP embedded.

If it aint broke dont fix it.

I wonder if this shop has already upgraded their registers.

I still have Win2k running on my IBM Thinkpad T43
We use to use these at work back in the days.

Works great.
Still supported by some modern network laser printers.

I've still got a dozen or more w2k desktops that work perfectly fine. There's a very slow Compaq E500 laptop with a still-working battery as well.

Opera 12.02 seems to be the best browser for them.

I suppose, so long as it's cash-only and doesn't take credit cards, it's fine?
