I just bought a biostar 8433 uuc motherboard . It is a revision 3.1 with a removable ODIN RTC. Of course its battery is dead. The motherboard has the pads for a classic barrel battery. If I solder one or the adapter for a coin cell battery (I have both from previous projects) would it work and keep the settings or should I try to replace the ODIN RTC?

If it is socketed remove it and read the model number. Should be the same as a Dallas RTC and there should be many videos on how to mod it for a coin cell.

Should be noted those old boards that did have a battery installed near the keyboard connector used rechargeable batteries so if you did mod one for a coin cell you need to put a diode inline to keep it from charging or it could pop.
