i'm trying to figure out if i'm able to install windows 98se on my optiplex 755. it's got a core 2 quad and a 7900gs. the only reason why is that i want to run a game for a video i'm thinking of and i don't want to deal with a virtual machine. and it's the only retro pc i have.

i don't know where to start. my cd drives don't work and i would like to install 98 from a usb. if i can get 98 working and booting i do want to dualboot xp. what should i do here? any tips?

It will work with 98. There should be a modified chipset driver to use. Use NUSB for the USB storage driver. Use the Microsoft 2004 update CD to update Windows 98. It is available on vogonsdrivers.

thanks. i assume the drivers are all on vogonsdrivers? does anyone have a step by step tutorial on how to get it all working?

i tried installing it via win98-quickinstall. i got it booting but it's so unstable. every time i reboot i get this bsod:

keyboard doesn't work so i have to hard reboot. but i can eventually get in.

i got the tweaked 82.69 nvidia drivers installed, but opening up the settings tab in the display properties crashes windows. right clicking the desktop crashes after that.
