I'm really looking forward to being able to set HID gamepad controls to specific keys. Among the small geek communities I'm active at, discussion about using gamepads in DOS has been growing recently, but the legacy options are few.

If you are just looking for HID gamepad to HID keyboard and/or mouse, you could hook a HID Remapper in front of the HIDman. No idea if both devices work together smoothly, I could test it if there is interest.

Interested that you test it.

Can you test on Batman Forever (DOS Version) ? (Not the Arcade one, the 2D style like Mortal Kombat).

This game have hardcoded controls using numpad only, who is a pain to play using the keyboard (it's litterally unplayable to do movesets)
And sadly as the USB controller is not remappable i can't use it either.

There is others games who have weird hardcoded controls under DOS with same problems.

Just to inform you of another recently-released development. The PicoGUS just had a beta firmware release which expanded it's USB gamepad support and features, including button remapping. To emphasise, it is a beta release, so I would not recommend jumping on it immediately with the expectation that it'll solve all your problems.

I don't have a PicoGUS, i'm using a Yamaha YMF719ES ISA soundcard who suit my needs (true OPL3, SC-55 on the wavetable etc ...) and a ZuluIDE for CD-Rom with Redbook Audio emulation under DOS.

But i will look into the HID Remapper, i've bought the HUB version who support multiple USB HID gamepads at same time and each of them will send keystrokes as a emulated keyboard.
It's exactly what i need to send specifics keystokes depending games.

We will see if the hidman is able to understand that emulated keyboard, normally it should as the HID signal should be standard and hidman support HUB too.
If it works it will perfectly suit my needs and also allow me to play multiplayers games under DOS with USB gamepads.
