Hi Everyone,
I just recently purchased a MT-32 (Old version, no phones in the back) along with a Behringer Eurorack mixer to use with my Mister fpga setup for primarily DOS gaming as well as other devices like the X68k. I used to use a MT32-pi for a while with my Mister, but figured I'd finally grab the real deal since I enjoy the sounds so much.
Testing with Ultima VI or Monkey Island 1, it sounds amazing, but certain games have some issues and I can't seem to pinpoint exactly what it could be stemming from.
For example, both Leisure Suit Larry 2 and Zeliard have booming sound, higher then what I have the volume is set at. But as soon as I adjust the volume knob slightly, it'll go back to the level it should be at if that makes sense. Every time there is a scene change in those games, the same thing happens. Although, not DOS related, Castlevania for X68K sounds strange, like its not mixed properly. Bass sounds up front and leads in the back kinda.
I've been searching and searching online, troubleshooting, but I'm just lost at this point. I've tried performing a reset (R + Master Volume, then 1) but nothing. Something I noticed, was when I initiated the test (3 + MV + V, then power on), I would get a "MIDI error", even though I had both MIDI ports patched in.
I'm not much of an audio expert, but I've setup everything like so:
-The Roland UM-ONEmkII to a USB slot of the Mister, then a MIDI connector labeled "connect to IN" to the IN slot on the back of the MT32.
-A y-split cable connecting the L and R ports in the back of the MT32 over to a single channel on the mixer
-A single 3.5 mm cable connecting the back of my monitor (for HDMI sound, non-MT32 sounds) to a y-split TRS, connected to two separate channels.
-My head phones are patched into the phones port in the mixer to hear.
I have it set to UART-USB mode in the emulator. So once all three devices are on, I just start a game that's been presetup for MT32 and it works.
My only thoughts is that I replace the cables in the L and R ports of the MT32 with separate TRS cables going to two separate channels instead of the Y-split to 1 channel. I know I wrote a wall here, but if anyone of you guys have a moment, I'd really appreciate your insight on my problem.
