There's also a bit of real developement.

No, the interesting thing is the new license. WHihc means the following.

1) Roland can now of course use it as a bases for a new sound canvas solution.
2) Dosbox can now integrate it directly, either attaching it to a virtual mpu401 interface or just emulating the roland boards themselves.
3) mame and emusc are now allowed to integrate it's code.

I am awfully curious about the exact reason for the switch, as last i checekd roland still cared, and was really only okay with the project because you weren't allowed to make your own sound canvas with it..

but is there really a need for new "developments"? Last time I checked it, it was working fine, it doesn't look something is missing. Of course there is always room for bells and whistles, but maybe some maintenance is all it needs.

you are talking about it in the context of "good enough", yes, it is good enough for SC-55 MK1 playback, but MK2 still remains a sore spot from what i can tell

Yeah, the reason for the mkII issue is it uses the mk1 PCM chip, which has a bug hidden by the mk1 firmware. to fix this, the mkII pcm chip needs to be decapped.

Mk1 is what the game music was made for. as far as i know only desktop music was ever composed for the mkII. I still want to see the bug fixed.
