I'm trying to run the program stunts in Dosbox on a windows xp system. I can run it in windows itself, but I'dd like to run it in Dosbox so I can capture videos. However, the program doesn't start in dosbox. The setup does start, but when it's closed down it says "ERROR: setup.dat - file could not be created." There's nothing wrong with setup.dat, it has the same contents as it has with other people, and I can run the setup in windows without any errors. I've reinstalled Dosbox and even got the newest version, but the problem persists. Other programs do open in dosbox. It's not the fault of stunts either, I reinstalled that too. So apparently, my windows system doesn't grant certain right to Dosbox or something. When I open the properties of the containing folder, or any folder on my computer really, it tells me it's read-only, something which I should be able to switch off, but when opening the properties again, it says it's read only, again. The files themselves are however not read-only. I've tried making Dosbox an exeption in all sorts of protection programs, and turning of the "resident shield", but it's no solution. So my question really is: What the helpdesk is windows doing to prevent me from calling on this program? Some sort of protection against a program calling on another file or program when ran in a 3rd program (dosbox)? Anyone has an idea? I know I'm out of them. Any help therefor is appreciated.

If your using Vista, you have UAC turned on and the game is not in your profile then you'll either need to run DOSBox as administrator or modify the rights on your stunts folder to allow write access.

The Read-Only behavior on folders that you noticed is normal.

I'm using XP. I might have UAC turned on, I'll go find out what it is. [/yes, I'm that good with computers]
O no, wait, I see, I can't have it turned on since it was introduced with Vista. Also I'm the only account on this computer and my account says it's an administrator (it'dd better be).

I am not sure what is going wrong for you Weirdo.

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox and try to install the program exactly as the guide say. Maybe try creating the game-folder in different places on your PC.

After that, when you have mounted the game-folder as C, try something like

echo Some text > C:\AFILE.TXT

and see if you can create a file on C:

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

Oké, now it's getting creepy, it works. First I installed both dosbox and stunts to anopther drive, which did nothing, then I tried to open a .txt file, which did nothing (and should do nothing according to the internal intro). After some playing arround with random commands I found out I first have to mount the drive, then call on mounted drive itself, just type C:, and then I can open the program, the setup works too. I don't have to do that with other programs. Anyone here any idea why this is?

Anyway, thanks guys. *happy is*
