The 32-bit version outnumbers the 64-bit version significantly. If you did have the 64-bit version, you'd very likely be aware of it. (To be honest, I've never encountered an install of the 64-bit version myself).

That's the error message that says very little. Try running the game in Windows 95 compatibility mode (right-click the shortcut or the exe file, and select the "compatibility" tab. You can then tell Windows to run it as if it were an older version. You can also try some of the other options to see if it makes a difference).
