I'm trying to get Skyrealms of Jorune - Alien Logic (v.1.0) to run, but i'm always getting an error stating "Exit to error: CPU:GRP5 Illegal Call 7". Well, the game intro screen shows, then the error pops up. I'm currently using DosBox 0.63.
I read the forums a bit, but i found nothing about this game, and the advice for other people who got this error in other games was just to wait for another release of DosBox. However, i managed to make the game run once and played it for a while until it crashed, but later when i tried running the game again it just wouldn´t work and i can't remember what i did to make it run.
There are two .nfo files who came with the .zip file, seen here:

This was a lil' bit tricky, so here is how you should, at least, to get
this game to work:

1) Install the game (I did it to D:\ALIEN)
2) Edit D:\ALIEN\INSTALL.DAT and/or INSTALL1.DAT
Change F to your liking.. My CD-Rom is I, so I changed it to J.
3) Boot to dos (note: NO Qemm!)
4) Run 'subst j: d:\' <-- Note d:\, not d:\alien !
5) Insert a music CD and run the game from D:\ALIEN with ALIEN.EXE
(forget the stupid batch file)

Packager: Someone.

TITLE : Alien Logic: A Skyrealms of Jorune Roleplaying Adventure

This game needs 6 Megs of XMS, 588K Base Mem, MSCDEX Loaded, and your
favorite music CD to Run..

Basically all you need to do is make sure MSCDEX is loaded Un-Arj
to a root dir on eithere C or D subst F for one of these and assure
that you have a Music cd in your CD-ROM.. The case may vary.. I.E.
If you have a CD-ROM Labeled D then Subst for E If you have A cdrom
as F Subst for G and so on.. Not to difficult to figure out.

I tested this with my system Configure as Followed:

D Drive was location of Alien Dir (The CD Data Files)
E Drive is the Actual CD-ROM with My Queensryche CD
I My D drive For F: and the Game Works fine.

Nice of SSI (Mindscape) to let us play our own CD's in this Great title..

Here are the contents of the Start.bat file mentioned in the INFO.NFO

The game is installed in C:\Alien and my Cdrom drive letter is D:\. When it first worked, i'm pretty sure the dosbox.conf was completely unchanged. Now it kind of seems random wether the game accepts my music CD as the real thing, and when it does it displays the error mentioned above.
I have changed the letter in Install.dat and Install1.dat to e, and when i try running the game i usually do this:

Run DosBox
Mount c c:\
c:
cd alien
subst e: c:
univbe
alien.exe

I've also tried just mounting c:\ and running the .bat file, but it doesn't yield any better results.
I hope i haven't just written a lengthy post filled with useless info :/

P.S. Please excuse any grammatical/spelling errors, english is not my native language.
P.P.S. Kudos to the creators of DosBox, finally i can run Darklands and MoM :)

you are doing a subst e: c:
so you don't mount a d:\ in dosbox.
so the game will not touch your cdrom drive.

if you mount your music cdrom you probably must add some lowlevel switch as well. (see intro cdrom)

I'm having a similar problem, where dosbox won't recognize the disc.

I'm attempting to install Alien Logic v1.0 on dosbox v0.73, on a windows XP.

After installing, the game gives me the "successful install" screen. So I enter "alien" to begin:

C:\ALIEN>alien
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.96
Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994
Alien Logic: Skyrealms of Jorune
Version 1.00

Nothing happens. When I hit enter, this shows up:

CD-rom not available
Please insert CD-rom and try again. ù:\alien\jigs.bin

Thank you for playing Alien Logic.

C:\ALIEN>

The PC in question runs with a DVD-Ram Drive. My mounts are as follows:

Current mounted drives are:
Drive C is mounted as local directory E:\DOSBox Programs\Alien Logic\
Drive D is mounted as local directory d:\
Drive Z is mounted as Internal Virtual Drive

How can I fix this issue?

EDIT: I also tried the suggested solutions above, and still yielded no results. How did you edit the install.dat?

Drive D is mounted as local directory d:\

See how it says mounted as local directory? You need to add "-t cdrom" to the mounting to enable MSCDEX.

ù:\alien\jigs.bin

Not sure about that part.

the d drive now reads:

Drive D is mounted as CDRom d:\

However, when I try to run the program, this message appears:

D:\ALIEN>alien
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.96
Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994
Alien Logic: Skyrealms of Jorune
Version 1.00

failed opening: ent.bin
Thank you for playing Alien Logic.

Its already been installed; trying again gives this result:

D:\Alien>install
Illegal Command: install

C:\Alien>install
Illegal Command: install

Should I attempt to uninstall, then install again?

Learn the file structure.

To install type:
D:\INSTALL
It is not located in D:\ALIEN.

To play type:
C:\ALIEN\ALIEN
Don't attempt to play from the disc.

Your suggestions seemed to have worked. Thanks for your patience. : )

However, when I close DOSBox and reopen it, I lose all of my mounts, and when I try running Alien Logic, I get this message:

C:\>ALIEN\ALIEN
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.96
Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994

can't open globals.i
Thank you for playing Alien Logic.

C:\>

When I reinstall, the game runs fine, but I've lost my save data.

Is this perhaps a product of whatever is causing this message to show up during installation?

FILES = 7 detected in your CONFIG.SYS.
Jorune: Alien Logic requires FILES = 60
You must correct this problem before running Jorune: Alien Logic.
The install can continue. [OK]

Install Screen Screen Capture

You can type the mounting commands in the [autoexec] section of the DOSBox conf. Or use a front end to create a profile to do this.

Make a text document with FILES = 60 and rename it to config.sys. Place this is the folder you mount as C to satisfy that message. It's unlikely to cause a problem since DOSBox handles more than that.

Are you sure you mounted it the same way as before?

Well, I've run the game a couple more times, and the loss of save data isn't happening anymore.

Is there a tutorial available on setting up autoexec commands? And which front end program would you recommend?

A tutorial isn't really needed. Just edit the DOSBox conf file. Under the the [autoexec] section type in the commands that you would when DOSBox starts.

I mostly use DOSBox Game Launcher. D-Fend Reloaded is also a good one.

DOSBox Game Launcher seems to have corrected the globals.i error. I'm now able to run Alien Logic with the disc without any problems.

However, I can't get the feature working that allows the player to listen to cd music.
When I try running the game without the disc, or with a music cd in the drive, it gives me this message:

D:\ALIEN>alien
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.96
Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994
Alien Logic: Skyrealms of Jorune
Version 1.02

And stops. When I hit enter, DOSBox closes.

Is there a way to fix this?

The CD is required to play. There are audio track on it. I'm not aware of a feature to use other CDs for audio.

The first post in the thread mentioned it...

Anyway, thanks for the assistance.

It may be the music CD is in addition to the game CD. When trying to start without it the game looks for Jigs.bin on the CD even though it was installed in the directory.
