Hello,

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I am dying to play these beloved games.

I have the following info:
Windows XP, Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon 2600+
512 MB RAM
Radeon 9600 128 MB Video Card
Directx version 9.0c

So far, I have tried the following things, none of which have worked:
1. Reduced and increased the refresh rate of a standard 60 hz from the range 55 through 65, none of which resolved
2. Under properties/compatibility, checked "run in 640X480" and "run in 256 color mode"

Please note this only happens with King's Quest 1 through 6...7 seems to be ok.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Let me know if I need to provide more info. I emailed the support hotline (uksupport@vgames.com) but have not received a reply.

Thanks!

Robertmo--I should have clarified in my post that I am using DosBox; the game came with its own version and runs from it. The DosBox website directed me here when I clicked on forums.

Then use the official dosbox version from our homepage rather than some
old version that this company packaged with the game without informing us.

You can't just replace the version of DOSBox that comes with the collection. The launcher that the collection uses has the 0.63 conf file hard coded into it. This is not compatible with 0.73. Users on the Steam forums have found a way around this, but that still does not address all of the myriad of other issues with the collection, of which there are many.

My new collection patches will update both DOSBox and the games. The version of KQ7 that they packaged with the last collection was 1.4, which had no DOS interpreter, so cannot be played in DOSBox without first installing Win3x in it. This game has a nasty speed bug that cannot be passed on modern PCs. My KQ patch will upgrade KQ7 to version 2.00b, which has a DOS interpreter and can be played in DOSBox. Since the launcher can't be used, the patches will create Windows shortcuts to launch the games, just like any Windows based game.

If you wish to see all the things that were wrong with the new collection, see this thread. There are similar problems with the other three collections, too. The patches fix all of these problems. And if you also own any of the missing games, the patch can even add them to the collections for you.
