is there a way that I can create a hard drive so I can run windows xp within dosbox? I'm using Dapplegrey for frontend

you can *barely* run Windows 95 on Dosbox, even worse with later Windows 9x versions. You cannot run Windows XP in Dosbox.
Use Virtualbox instead http://www.virtualbox.org/

Frontend-independent, Windows 3.1 might work, but no later windy version.

Creating hard drives? I believe Bochs includes bximage which should work with.
