Blood repeating levels

Bit of a bizarre issue, I've checked the forum and found nothing that comes close.

First a big congrats for getting Blood to work, I tried a Virtual PC using win98 and that run very badly indeed (and even then, had to be in DOS mode, with low resolution), and sound is terrible.

On Dosbox, Blood works almost flawlessly. Controls, graphics, sound, you name it, it's as good as the good old days when I tried this new-fangled Win95 😀

But, problem is, it repeats levels. I played E1M1, went to E1M2, then E1M3, and that looped back to E1M2. Kinda frustrating, you get nowhere! Obviously you can cheat and warp the levels, but then you lose your items. Yes you can cheat and get all items, but that loses the progression and gameplay 🙁

I checked the config for blood: yes it's E1M1, E1M2, E1M3, E1M4 etc.

I'm running the latest Dosbox - 0.74 I think.

I'm using a fairly modern laptop, I don't think the specs are partiucularly an issue here, it's a dual core fast laptop with some 4GB memory, like I say, Dosbox works and runs flawlessly - just that repeat level thing.

Checked the forum but found nothing similar, so... any suggestions as to what is going on and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE:

I figured I should try this in Virtual PC. That might even be a way to circumvent the "bug", albeit very crudely.

Imagine my surprise when the same thing happened.... E1M2 goes to E1M1.

So... NOT a Dosbox issue... but anyone who can help, please, do suggest! I've never seen it do -this- before.

your copy of the game is corrupt ?
Reinstall it and patch it up the last version.

That is a definite possibility of course, but I'm sure I used it to install on another laptop not so long ago. Obviously that doesn't preclude it being corrupted since then. I am even now trying to locate another back-up... I keep copies of everything. Learnt that the hard way, one fateful day when my report had to be in on a certain day and I kept some notes with the floppy disk.

Quick test and that does indeed appear to be the solution. I got v1.00, so I installed that. A quick run through and E1M3 goes to E1M4 as Monolith intended!

Chalk this one up to a fubar'd installation disc, I guess.
