Ok, trying to give Windows ME another shot.

First issue is SoundBlaster Live! and SB16 Emulation in device manager. If I use the CD Live 3.0 ISO and update. All is well until I try to reboot. If I choose to reboot it hangs. Startup and shutdown do not do this. If I disable it in device manager then Reboot functions again. Also tried the SBLIVE2 that is available on MDGX repository and causes even more issues booting with SB16 Emulation.

Second issue. Cannot get Daemon Tools 3.47 to work proper. Off the bat you need to have a newer MS Installer installed. Got the file seperate or use the unofficial SP2 Beta 9 which contains the same. Depending on my luck the computer either hangs at startup and bootlog never shows a fail when going to safe mode. Other times installing it, it may boot but then says "Virtual SCSI driver not detected" in windows and cannot open the program without it saying this. Also nothing shows up in Device manager for SCSI unless in Safemode.

Tried Kernel EX 4.5.2 and no go.

I can't keep count of how many fresh installs I did so far. Maybe 5 now. I have had windows 98SE running on a 120GB IDE with this system so I know it should not be a hardware issue.

System:
Windows me
P!!! 1.4GHz-S
ASUS CUSL2-CB
512MB CL2 Crucial
WD 160GB IDE
16X DVD-ROM IDE
Sony Floppy drive
Voodoo 4 (powercolor evil king IV)
Intel 1000MT NIC
Soundblaster Live!
NEC 4-Port USB 2.0 PCI card

Whats the reason for installing ME? If its RAM limits and stuff, better patch up W98SE with unofficial SP3 and rock on.
Win 2k ftw

If you want to keep trying this, then instead of installing from scratch every time, it would probably be faster to make an image of the drive right after installation, and then restore the image.

Have you disabled System Restore? That is often implicated in ME problems.

Been using Win 98SE for a long time. Never played with ME back in the day and tried to use it about 2yrs ago for fun with no luck on drivers for my D-Link NiC card. Back then I was swapping hardware out alot. Since I found the hardware I want to use and worked well under W98SE I figured there should be no reason ME can't do the job.

I do like the USB support and faster booting of ME so far.

@ Jorpho. Imaging sounds like a smart move. I'd just been keeping the separate partition with all the cab files and setup from there. I also have tried disabling System Restore (from troubleshooting area), and also have left it on. Same results each time. PCHealth was disabled as well.

I haven't gone over my IRQ's will be checking that soon. It is weird after Unofficial SP2 I cannot open System Information, or atleast on the last time I tried it 😀

EDIT: Figured out the Soundblaster Live!, Enabled PNP OS in bios. Used Live!Ware 3.0 ISO for drivers. and then get the WinME driver update from creative website.

Still searching the Daemon Tools. Searching for error 25018 and/or pnphlp.vxd seems to show others with similar issues. Don't see a fix yet 🙁
