Im using a Voodoo Banhee AGP with my PC Chips M577 VIA MVP3 motherboard, the performance is as exptected, no wierd glitches.

With my Gigabyte GA5-AX running a K6-3+ I tried to use a PCI Voodoo III but the performance wasnt what it should have been which was very irratating as I had benched every imaginable Slot-1 CPU at every possible speed setting with the Voodoo III and I was going to do a comparison. A Geforce III Ti500 worked fine with the GA-5AX even if it limited the max overclock somewhat because of its huge power draw. A Geforce 2 MX400 also worked well and seemed like a good match, the FPS was fine at 1280*1024 in Quake III.

This was the result with the Geforce III Ti500 at 5x120 MHz with the L3 cache deactivated. With the Geforce 2 MX I could run the same speed setting with the L3 cache activated and if I remember right the FPS was a little bit better but I cant find the screenshots from the runs with the Geforce 2 MX, they are probably still on the HDD I used when benching.

1280*1024 32bit

For Quake 2, the fastest result I got from my MVP3-based FIC VA-503+ with my K6-3+ 550 and a Voodoo 3 3500 (183 MHz) is 86.9 FPS at 1024x768. This is using the 3DNow! enhanced version of Q2.

For Unreal Gold, I got 49.4 FPS at 1024x768 with the same setup.

This sounds about right for Quake 2 Demo001. I can't get beyond 50fps as it is right now 😀. Unreal is probably correct as well.

Swaaye, I like to install the AGP GART, but I don't think it really does anything in the case of Voodoo cards. Pretty sure I had the exact same results without it 🙁.

Could be. When I was messing with DVD playback I discovered that write allocation and MTRRs were critical to good video performance though. They are not enabled by default sometimes. It would work with Voodoo3 but Rage 128 would crash and burn. This is something that "just works" on Intel setups.

I found some suggested ALI AGP settings for DVD playback. Voodoo3 = cool with this. Rage 128 = blow up.

Nope, that didn't help at all 🙁. I pretty much saw zero improvement.

Yeah it probably only affects video overlay and maybe DOS framebuffer transfers.

Actually tring a Voodoo3 3000 with early bios with this. 2D quality doesnt seem to be any better that the S3 Savage4 but I can imagine the power consumption is double. 😁
