Hi...
I have this Voodoo2 card, that are refusing to run at full speed. The only way to get it to finish a complete 3D-Mark99 test, are to downclock it to something between 85 and 87 megaherz. When running from aprox 89/90 and up (it's a 100mhz card), it will freeze midway in the test, or after aprox 10 to 15 minutes of Unreal Tournament 99 gaming. What would this issue indicate?

According to the Specs the Chipset runs at 90mhz, and Ram 100mhz. Try aiming a fan at it and see if it helps, if so can only
be heat issues.

Out of the 3 big chips, the middle one gets more hot than on other V2 cards. And the voltage regulator gets more hot than other cards.
I think it is an voltage regulator, just not 100% certain. It is the 3-legged one next to one of the vga-connectors.

I can place a finger on them two components for aprox 2 minutes, before it get's unbareable and uncomfortable to touch.

How fast is your CPU?
I heard they get hot if you have a high clockrate but I never checked if its true.
Just a hunch that might be the issue!
Maybe post some specs?
Good luck!

Could be the card failing from age but adding some form of cooling will do some good, who knows it might have some years left. Just slap on some chipset heatsinks that use a thermal adhesive pad and mount a 80mm nearby then it should work at 90mhz just fine. Also cooling that mosfet is a must, I really hate it when those get hot and brick things.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

If the other cards are working fine in the same system then the card it self is likely to blame.
If it's over heating and the other cards arnt then there is something wrong. I'd start by doing a close up inspection of the card to see if anything is wrong or if any parts are different/wrong. Better cooling might help, but that's like putting duct tape on a cracked headlight if the other ones arnt over heating.

I have been comparing the card with another of the same model, that I found highres pictures of on the net. At first I thought that some of the empty solderpads, were missing components, yet nothing is missing at all. I have tried this card in at least 6 different system's that can drive another V2 just fine. And this card is failing all the time, unless I lower the clockspeed by these 5 to 6 mhz.

Right now, it is running on a system with an P3-500 and 100mhz FSB.

I have glued heatsinks on the three major chips and the 3-legged mosfet (sorry, my knowledge of component-names are limited)

EDIT:
Even at lower frequency, the card drives UT99 fluid at 800x600.
