NASA have released the source code to the Apollo 11 1969 Moon landings!

https://github.com/chrislgarry/Apollo-11

So now you, yes YOU, can go to the moon! All you have to do is build a space-craft yourself, and use computer hardware that's old enough run the compiled code, and make sure the Clangers don't nick your flag when you get to the Moon 🤣

Seriously, the source code is genuine (as far as I know), and it's good that they released it, especially if it stops even 1% of the "The Moon landings are fake" nonsense, but even if not, then it's cool to have the source code anyway, plus hopefully it might help the open source movement and encourage more companies to release the source code for their older, no longer used, products and programs.

Isn't it dangerous to opensource flight control / maneuver code? It could be misused.

In what way?
Based on my limited understanding of computer code, the code itself is completely outdated, plus the control and lunar modules that these were written for is no longer in use (obsolete technology).

Such a thing would not stop one to get a hold of old obsolete technology for a cheap price and build a rocket powered weapon or something.
Most of nuclear weaponry is functioning on technology from 1960s/1970s.

Terrorist don't care of efficiency they care of a functional arsenal- for example.

Well, the way I see it, you still need to strap on some nuclear powered material or explosives to the front of your rocket in order for it to do any damage (and those items are a bit harder to come by).
Also, wouldn't the code apply more to near zero gravity situations and also for slow maneuvering? If you try and apply that code to earth conditions, your rocket probably isn't going to get very far before being shot down or, it might even just end up on top of your head 🤣 (this makes me think of all those Road Runner cartoons I've seen as a kid).

I understood that the Apollo 11 used discrete components that barely qualified as a "computer", not unlike the original Pong arcade machine.

Git has a "humor" tag now? How spirited.

Thats pretty cool. Comments on github are hilarious too. Its all pretty pointless, and nothing more than an academic exercise. NASA seem to have a habit of open sourcing software. (http://www.nasa.gov/press/goddard/2015/march/ … cation-suite-to)

This source code is not *secret*, it's a transcribe from a paper copy.

"converted from their custom .agc files to .s files for syntax highlighting, for Command Module (Comanche055) and Lunar Module (Luminary099). Digitized by the folks at Virtual AGC and MIT Museum. The goal is to be a repo for the original Apollo 11 source code"

You need the correct hardware to run this code. There are emulators available and more information on the AGC can be found here (http://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/ForDummies.html).

If your into your vintage programming, you could be a part of the voyager project!

Apollo code yeah, thats why i said flight/maneuver code in general 😀
They will probably ride the rocket them selves with an explosive vest 🤣

But still, this is pretty cool. I wonder how does Voyager source code look like.

Give it a few days and "Kangaboy" will somehow make up some lame argument about how the code was part of the whole fakery, just to make the whole program look believable. 🤣

has anyone ported it to kerbal space program or some other/new moon landing sim yet?
