Are GeForce 256 DDR cards that rare?

TNT2 is not that expensive. The TNT2 Ultra's are because of their rarity. Otherwise, you could stick with ATI Rage (128) Fury, Matrox G400's. Rage 128 is actually a pretty solid performer with the newest drivers.

Better stock up on these too before their prices go explode through all the roofs of sanity 🤣

So that German seller finally ran out of those 400 ATZ's? Must've taken years! 😕

He did, and i waited too long 😢

I do have one and i always thought that if i ever needed more he would still have some 🤣
Could use another one to play with....

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32
asus p3b-f, p3-700, voodoo3 3500TV agp, awe64
asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!

I have a very soft spot for early pre-9700 ATI cards indeed so I went online to see if anyone sold a Rage 128 locally.. No luck. In the process I came across a lis
ting for a "Lot of vga cards" for $3 each. The listing photo was a passive MX400 so I thought Id buy that at worst. The lot consisted of 4 cards and heres a photo of it:

Yes I bought that card on top for $3.... 😁

Apparently since I posted about the Creative GeForce 256 SDR and it got bought out within a few hours, I'm assuming some lurkers are reading this thread and searching for the card. So here's a brand new GeForce 256 DDR (Asus V6800 Deluxe). Too much money for me, but maybe someone reading it will bite?

Another card. Dirt cheap by comparison.

I am puzzled why I can't find that card with "Asus V6800" and sold items. Or the one I previously listed (that is now sold), for that matter.

If you notice, that auction said just "DVD's and glasses". I'm HIGHLY suspicious there's no card in that auction. If someone paid that much just for a relatively empty box, I hope they're a collector with a card already... or they're going to be massively disappointed.

I snagged a Dell GeForce 256 SDR on eBay for cheap; it just came in the mail today. It's slightly unusual because it has a DVI output. Now for the the elusive DDR version. But yea, there is literally nothing on the card that would indicate to a seller its a GeForce 256. I think the problem (or opportunity) goes away after the GeForce FX/Radeon X800 era, where most cards are properly labeled..

Something I've noticed about GF256 is that it doesn't run as smoothly as the frame rate would seem to indicate. Frame time issues I suppose. When I swap in a GeForce2 or TNT2, the gameplay is smoother.

NV15 is really just a tweaked and bug fixed NV10 so who knows what's up.

Interesting, I've never noticed such problems. The truth is I never really used GF 256 to play games (it is simply too slow for me)... just benchmarks. But Even in the Fraps frametimes logs, there is nothing pointing to stuttering. Maybe it is related to GPU driver / chipset driver / chipset itself? The word is NV10 had some AGP compatibility issue, so maybe this. Here are some results:

Pentium E5700 @ 3.9 GHz
ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2
2 GB DDR2 600 MHz CL4-4-4-12
Windows XP SP3
FW 71.89 WHQL

GeForce 256 DDR - 32 MB (128-bit), 120/300 MHz
GeForce2 GTS - 32 MB (128-bit), 200/333 MHz
GeForce4 MX 440 SE - 64 MB (64-bit), 275/266 MHz

There might be some issues in Serious Sam... so perhaps OpenGL related? Everything else looks good (but is running D3D). Of course the question is if these frametimes logs can be trusted and represents the actual "smoothness"... but I guess noone will measure it using FCAT. 🤣

I feel the same 😁

Mostly benching these cards, and I haven't noticed anything unusual. I've also played a few games, they can be seen in my video review of the card, and also here I didn't notice any issues. Half-Life ran quite alright, so did all the other OpenGL games such as GLQuake, Quake II, Quake III and MDK 2.

Still, regardless it's not a card I would pick to game on, lots of other, cheaper, easier to find and faster options. But it surely is a nice collectors card to have 😀

I think I was seeing a combination of vsync-related framerate drops due to GF256's low performance and also 32MB memory limits in combination with triple buffering in some cases.

Maybe also chipset issues yeah. At one point I was using an AMD 750 based board.

My 256 DDR is Dell OEM. (I believe, came with a Dimension XPS B866) Interestingly, it has a low serial number in the thousands seemingly manually written onto the slot latch.

2xP2 450, 512 MB SDR, GeForce DDR, Asus P2B-D, Windows 2000
P3 866, 512 MB RDRAM, Radeon X1650, Dell Dimension XPS B866, Windows 7
M2 @ 250 MHz, 64 MB SDE, SiS5598, Compaq Presario 2286, Windows 98

I have no problems with my Geforce 256 at all, I actively use it in my Pentium 2 build. There is only 1 game that is has ocassional stuttering (Even though it shouldn't) which is Dungeon Siege.

What resolution and settings do you usually use? What games do you play?

Yep, back in the day when I upgraded from a Voodoo 3 3500TV to a GeForce 256 DDR I experienced the same thing, at that time I thought it was a faulty card and exchanged it and that one did it as well so I took it back and got a refund. I kept using the Voodoo3 3500TV and eventually upgraded to a GeForce 2 Ultra when they were released and that issue never occured. Back then I had no idea what frame timing was and honestly have never heard of that term until recent years.

I suppose this is as good a place to ask as any, but.. Which model of GeForce 2 is the Leadtek Winfast GeForce 2 TH? It doesn't say Titanium on the card, neither does it say MX, just TH.. AFAIK there is no 'plain' GeForce 2?

Not sure what the TH moniker would be as GeForce 2 came out as GeForce 2 GTS, GeForce 2 Pro and GeForce 2 Ultra there's also GeForce 2 MX series and for laptops the GeForce 2 Go series.

As a side note, I swear the Mandela effect is real, because I'm not sure when the Titanium/"Ti" moniker came out for the GeForce 2 series but I absolutely don't recall any of them to have that moniker back in those days. The only cards I remember being "Ti" began with the GeForce 3 series.

The GF 2 Ti came out quite late. I think even when the GF3 was already out. Basically as a budget alternative?
