Alright so here's the deal. I'm not too sure how to interpret the CPU-Z results because of the stock frequency under processors information. It says 700MHz- what do they mean by that? I ask because everything else seems to be pointing to 850MHz. I looked up similar CPUs and I think I narrowed it down to 2:

The model of this laptop is NEC Versa LXi
Mainboard model: [VP4JBEF-00B-000] - Strange enough this one is not listed anywhere on a website from what I can find.

My other question is about:

DMI Physical Memory Array
location Motherboard
usage System Memory
correction None
max capacity 256 MBytes
max# of devices 2

Is the "max capacity 256MBytes" referring to the limit PER device? Therefore allowing it to reach 512MB? Because I have tried to upgrade the RAM before but I might have just used incompatible memory. The documentation does mention going up to 512MB but I lost my confidence so hearing a 2nd opinion or some assurance would be nice. Probably will be sticking to OEM recommended accessories now.

I'll be damned if I posted in the wrong topic/thread .__. Maybe I can also get some pointers on what to do before trying to overclock this thing? I know I asked a lot but yeah any help/discussion would be appreciated. And I know I should just open the !$%#er but lets save that for later if and when there's desperation..

Mobile Pentium 3 Coppermine can change frequency on the fly. I have HP Omnibook 6000 (which is also Intel BX based) with mobile Pentium 3 1000 which can slow down to 700Mhz.
Don't remember if it is multiplier or FSB lowering. I think it is early implementation of SpeedStep technology which is not well supported after Windows 98.

Of course I can be wrong. It was quite a long time ago when I was fighting with this beast, and my memory may fail.

If I can suggest something - try to download driver pack for HP Omnibook 6000 from HP support site, and check if it does contain specific driver/update for this CPU feature.
(ok. I can answer myself - I doesn't...)

yes Pentium 3 already had Speedstep. I want to say the Dell P3 laptop I had did show varying CPU speed in software because of that but I guess I have to say that my memory isn't 100% clear on that, and I could be remembering incorrectly. But P3 mobile does have Speedstep for sure.

Yes, I always ramble this much.

Run an instance of Prime 95 while running CPU-Z to be sure Speedstep is not slowing it down.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

I looked over what Prime 95 does (a rough understanding about those perfect primes) but I don't see its role in affecting Speedstep? Does it isolate it or something?
This page I found that is a bit dated but seemed to explain it pretty well on Playtool.
But I still don't know how I should use this to help me here.

I just meant to load the CPU while CPU-Z is running, it doesn't have to be prime95, it can be any cpu benchmark to forces the cpu to run at full speed while CPU-Z is detecting the processor.

So... let's see if I got this. The CPU-Z is in charge of taking a "screenshot" if you will, of the system's current settings. This is achieved by running a benchmark which is to help determine the full speed of the cpu. But isn't there limitations placed on the CPU by the manufacturer? Or will the benchmark bypass that? And I feel like there's still other things to address like temperature and whatnot.

Just try it. cpu-z shows current operating frequency of cpu. it should also identify the cpu (regardless of current operating frequency). I just don't know if it's properly IDing your cpu, that's why I suggested loading to cpu up to see what frequency it maxes out at.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.
