Hello, I need your help to identify my hoader collection of k6-2.
I'd like to have both the Chomper and Chomper eXTended version.
I know that version from 350 to 500 are all CXT but I can't find how to identify non CXT version, I had one but I sold it before thinking it was rated 300mhz.
I actually have:

Amd K6/300AFR
2.2V Core/3.45V I/O
A9824WFW
1997

AMD-K6-2/300AFR
2.2V CORE/3.3V I/O
A 9834GPHW
1998

AMD-K6-2/350AFR
2.2V CORE/3.3V I/O
A 0320VPMW 7
1998

AMD-K6-2/500AFX
2.2V CORE/3.3V I/O
A 9938CPBW
1998

Is there a way to identify a Chomper without installing it?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I have both Chomper and CXT K6-2s with the same date code: 98/41. So both revisions were in production around this time. But if your piece in question is much older or newer it might be an indicator (though I wouldn't bet my life on it).

What makes it a little easier is that there are system information programs for DOS. Thankfully a DOS drive can easily be booted without having to replace drivers or messing up the OS' stability.

Thank you for the answer, yes to my knowledge speedsys is enough to understand if it is cxt or chomper, how can I read the date code? The 300 afr should be 98/34 right? It should be Chomper then...

Edit I have been able to find those info:
K6-2 Model 8, Stepping 0 to 7 – Chomper

Available speeds: 200, 233, 250, 266, 300, 333, 350 MHz
Front Side Bus: 66 or 100 MHz
L1 Cache: 32 + 32 kB (Data + Instructions)
Instruction set: MMX, 3DNow!
9.3 million transistors in 0.25 micron
Release of the first chips: May 1998

K6-2 Model 8, Stepping 8 to 15 – Chomper Extended (CXT)

Available speeds: 200, 233, 250, 266, 300, 333, 350, 366, 380, 400, 450, 475, 500, 533, 550 MHz
Front Side Bus: 66, 95, 97 of 100 MHz
L1 Cache: 32 + 32 kB (Data + Instructions)

A couple of years ago I had Chomper and picked up this tip from the web:
ooooooooooooooooooooo
To distinguish between Chomper and Chomper-XT processors read the code on the edge of the ceramic:
26050 is a Chomper core processor,
26351 is a Chomper-XT core processor.
ooooooooooooooooooooo
The 26050 code on my version sat at the bottom left - see photo

Good catch! Unlucky all my k6-2 are without that code, the only one who has it it the plain k6

That sucks 😉. Maybe, if you are lucky, they stopped adding that code in all later versions of the XT ? AMD chip recognition is a bit of a jungle unfortunately.

Great find! I just looked over my collection and it seems correct for every piece.
(The package code is visible on all of my K6 parts. Phew!)
