Ran that program, hopefully these screens show you what you want to know.

Thank you and yes, I have the same CPU and am pretty sure CPUZ ran OK on it last time I tried it. Can you boot NT/2K/XP on that system? If you can it would be interesting to see what Menu->Hardware->CPUID->CPU-0 reports, below is what I get on my CPU.

CuPid wrote on 2020-07-23, 18:01:

Thanks. It is strange because the K6-2 is supposed to support the MSR. Well ...

I assume it's MSR C0000087 it was trying to read and my identical Family 5 Model 8 (08) Stepping 12 CPU has it.

This makes no sense at all as my CPU should be the same and has C0000087, but your 'fixed' CPUZ no longer reports the FSB speed.

I'll load up XP on it and try that out shortly. Just need to find another CF card first.

EDIT - XP is installing now.

EDIT 2 - Forgive me if I'm a bit thick but I have no idea what these instructions are asking me to do "If you can it would be interesting to see what Menu->Hardware->CPUID->CPU-0 reports, below is what I get on my CPU." Do you want me to run CPU-Z in XP? If so what version and do you want me to run that other program too?

Thank you, it's really strange that your CPU does not seem to have MSR C0000087 and mine does.

With NT/2K/XP and later we can use an SEH (Structured Exception Handler) in our drivers to catch the 'BSOD' and deal with it so SIV should be able to tell if that MSR is there or not. SIV has Menu->Hardware->MSRs->MSRs K6 which should list all the AMD K6 MSRs that exist, but rather than post screen shots ideally post the two Menu->File->Save Local files as there may be other things I need to check.

It's just SIV32L V5.51 Beta-02 I wish you to run and does as attached help clarify?

Yes it sure does! I had no idea there was a menu drop down if you clicked there.

I will do exactly what you want when XP is done installing.

Ok ran SIV32X in XP and just out of curiosity the latest CPU-Z in XP as well (no crash).

Attached is the SIV32X report and a screenshot from the latest CPU-Z.

Thank you, but please may I also have F:\SIV32X\SIV_9590DF9758454F9.dmi (attach a .ZIP as .DMI is not allowed)? This is a binary dump of the raw data that the [Machine] page reports and I would like to so I can address SIV reporting 4 DIMMs when there are in reality only two. This is caused by the SMBIOS data being wonky.

Looking in the [msrs] section and at [CPUID CPU-0] then as I suspected MSR C0000087 exists so CPUZ-W9x should be able to read it and report the FSB speed.

In general reading MSRs on W9x is problematic, I just wish it was possible to use a SEH (Structured Exception Handler) as it the case on NT4 and later.

I've just released a new version of cpu-z vintage edition (1.02).
The new features are :
- AMD K5 model 0 (SSA/5).
- Improved support of Cyrix Cx486DRx2/DRu2.
- Improved support of Ti486SXL/SXL2.
- Intel 430FX chipset.
- Opti 82C822 chipset.
- VIA VT82C505/VT82C486 chipset.

Official version : https://download.cpuid.com/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.02-win9x.zip
Beta version : http://download.cpuid.com/betas/cpuz_w95.zip

I'm currently working on adding the support of ISA/VLB video cards, if you have such a video card and are willing to help, you can use one the two versions listed above, save a Video BIOS dump from the tools button, and post it here. Thank you !

I need a vacation.

Is this the PGA132 or PGA168 version? If PGA168, what board were you able to run it in? Never found a suitable board yet.

See my graphics card database at www.gpuzoo.com
Constantly being worked on. Feel free to message me with any corrections or details of cards you would like me to research and add.

Me neither, I have a PGA168 model and could never boot it.
For the software support I got the help of feipoa, he uses a PGA132 version.

What about the PGA132 version ? Is it well supported by the latest 386 mainboards ?

I was just referring to the screenshot. I don't even have any Socket 4 hardware to test unfortunately. Sorry.

Yep here you go. Report says I don't have any graphics adapters - This computer has an IBM XGA/2 with 1MB vRAM.

The CPU speed reported by CPUZ is to say the least incorrect 🙁 Even with just CPUZ active it's wonky.
