I promised myself I won't be collecting specific series because it's too damn expensive and frustrating. Some items are always rare and overpriced so you have to pay insane amounts of money just to complete the series, money that could be used to buy more interesting hardware.

Must have (even if it's expensive):
Anything from the Videoton VT-series (Hungarian tech company).
Anything from Műszertechnika (Hungarian tech company).
Complete IBM 5150.

Could use (if I get a bargain):
Slot A system.
Socket 8 mainboard.
Dual mainboard.

Would be nice (to have if it doesn't involve selling a kidney for it):
A working terminal from the 70's.
A working 8" floppy drive with functional disks.
Anything soviet that does more than a standard calculator.

A 720k floppy drive for my Tandy 1000SL.

A slot1 PC (at least MB/CPU) of the p3 800-1000ish variety.

The Epson 486 I used to have as a kid.

EDIT: This should probably go into rants, but there is one for sale as a "working" 486 board (it's a386 board) with no BIOS or keyboard controller or even a battery. Seller must have a special definition of "working" .

You should keep an eye open for a Compaq Presario CDS series, from time to time you can get one on eBay.

I'm not much of a hardware collector, I've got a single dedicated DOS machine that plays pretty much any DOS game I'd want to play, so I'm happy with that.

I've got a very small software collection, mostly RPGs and flight sims because these games had such awesome packaging back in the DOS days. However, it's quite hard to find any of these games here in Japan, so I am forced to go with Ebay and wait for deals (shipping is insane).

Revived a fun thread!

I'm pretty content with my collection currently. It has every type of PC of the period I'm interesting in: 8086, 8088, 486dx4, Pentium 1 and Pentium 2.

What I'm missing mostly is space to put them all. I currently can only set one system up at a time and whenever I want to do something on a different system, I need to clear the space again..

Luckely, I'm moving to a new house with a larger attic, so that will be a great opportunity to get some more desks and create a nice display where all systems can sit permanently. It will be epic.

The only thing on my "would be fun to have"-list:
- a 10 mhz 8086 (like a Laser XT3)
- yamaha mu50, 80 or 90 sound module

Can't think of anything else, but a socket 8 board. I could with a few more midi cards / modules, but they are not on top of my list. Well, AdLib Gold obviously, but that's unobtainium.

I think I've reached a point where there would be things that are nice to have but i'm not looking anymore so i suppose nothing is missing from the collection, feels a bit strange in a way!

Your list is my next one.....I'm looking for the Panasonic or TDK cards for my non-sound Versas.

I'm actually downsizing somewhat this year but I if I don't put the cracked to pieces one back together, Ultralite Versa is the last computer. Once I'm done with that....the only vintage PC's I'm buying or getting otherwise are just to flip for money for parts to upgrade and upkeep the machines I'll have post-downsize.
