The SD-20 doesn't even have flash memory either, it can't store any settings. The "SD-20 Editor" is used for that.

I suppose he meant that it has glue and it is not corroding, I don't know if I agree, my SC-155 had the battery changed and there was an acid thread that almost came off the logic board.

I assumed something like that, but it seems strange that someone with 9 posts in 9 years comes out of nothing claiming that this whole thread is moot and what we see is only glue. As if Roland (or any other company) would be so dump to put glue on a battery that firmly sits in a battery holder... It's of course leaked electrolyte from the coin cell.

The MT-32 doesn't have an internal battery unless it has been modified. But you might want to look into replacing the caps on it at some point as there are kits available for the MT-32.

i checked my SC-88 Pro when i bought it, and the battery was leaking. Lucky there was no damage on the board..

*Gulp*. I didn't know the SC-88 Pro also has one. I'll have to check tonight.

My SC-55 did have a swollen battery but no corrosion or other damage, fortunately.

Which reminds me. Gotta check my SC-55 to make sure the battery didn't leak as it's been sitting for a long time without power.

Well, my SC-88 Pro battery seems to be fine. I'd like to remove it (it doesn't have it to remember any settings anyway) but I'm not sure how to get it out?

I can move it a little when I put a flat screwdriver under (or above) the battery, but it's difficult to see what I'm doing so I don't want to use too much force. Is there any trick to it? I'd rather avoid taking out the upper board.

I didn't even try without taking out the upper board... seems hard to do without.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to take it out then. I always try to avoid any chance of damaging things, but I guess it's unavoidable here 😀

So,

1. Roland MT32 (old) does not have battery.
2. Roland Sound Canvas SC55 mark I has one, i have replaced it with new.
3. Roland Sound Canvas SC88 (not the pro), i guess it has, i will have to check it.
4. What about Roland CM64 and Yamaha MU50?

MU50 has a battery but it's soldered AFAIK
CM64 does not have a battery

SC88 has the battery, in a holder (like most Roland gear).

Headless modules (no or minimum buttons on front) intended for use with a computer only usually lack a battery, and generally also lack persistent memory into which to save settings (patches usually are saved in the computer editor).

Push back and flip up?

Some holders have a little slide you must move before removing the battery.
