Absolutely!. I'm always trying to find the best upgrades I can use on any device, it's my nature, and I have the tools for it, but yes! I'm still happy to have one of the earliest versions!
Thanks.

IIRC you need a 256kbytes rom so a 27C020 and variants will work fine

Thanks for this, and other pieces of information on this thread!

I just updated my SC55 MkI from 1.20 to 1.21 ROM (using a 27C020). I am not expecting to ever notice the fixes, but I thought why not go all the way and do the upgrade 😁

I've had issues with my SC-55 mk2 when trying to play Blood. The issue is, almost none of the songs play correctly (almost all instruments are wrong, notes won't play, etc.). I just discovered that my SC-55 mk2 ROM version is 1.00. Funny thing is, the setup music works just fine and other games work great. Setting the music to General MIDI or Sound Canvas doesn't change anything either.

This is a bug in the game, check this thread: Blood and hardware Roland Midi problem

Would this one suffice?

What is that "70" at the end of the name?

yes it will be perfect
-70 is the speed rating in ns - it is a faster eeprom than needed so no issues there

So, this was a little big. The seller tells me to bend the legs? Is this a tested method?

which is the original chip? the one with the 3 blobs? that looks like a combo chip used for something else...

I have the v2.00 mk1 with gm marking. What issue should I hear on the games level?

Lack of Capital Tone Fallback. Other than that, it should be fine.

somebody wrote, it is not an issue there.

but anyway, what does the "capital tone fallback" mean?
do you have an example, what i can listen?

Essentially, it means that if the MIDI has variation tone that's not present in SC-55, the module will assign this instrument to its standard variation. 2.00 and mk2, however, won't play the instrument at all.

Ok, so i cannot hear one single instrument, that is it? There are sometimes way bigger differences between the final result (mk1 vs mk2), than this. Eg system shock.

Practically, yes. However, if all channels use inappropriate patch variations, the entire MIDI would be silent.

The most common scenario is where a composer used the wrong instrument for a drumkit, which means on an original, the correct drumkit is usually still played because of how the SC-55 handles it. On a mkII, it may play the basic Standard drumkit instead, IIRC.
