Did sound work before you changed the configuration?
Does sound work at all? Try some other games to test.

Sounds worked before, but were streched. I can't hear any sound at all. I only have this game but hmm ... I try Duke Nukem 3D ... (I manage to get it work on my xp pro but it lags and hear no sounds.)

Duke Nukem 3D works, but if music is enabled, it isn't running smoothly. I hear sounds. So there's something with Quake ...

Well be sure you're using clean 0.65 release with the default dosbox.conf,
and ONLY change the core and cycles setting. Duke3d should run then
if the graphics mode is set to 320x200 and sound is correctly set up
in the duke setup (sb16 a220 irq=7 dma=1).

Duke3D works perfectly, unlike Quake's sounds: none at all

using dma channel 5
version 4 sb startup
sound sampling rate 11025

Water flows down the stream

Yes, I receive that same now. Thanks people 😀 The random lag can't be fixed, I guess, but it won't ruin my game sessions heh.

Try disabling GUS support in the dosbox.conf. I've had that problem too. It should fall back to Sound Blaster, which will work

What happens if I disable all others than MIDI and SoundBlaster ?

Nothing really magic, they're just not enabled then. Don't see any
reason to disable the other sound devices though.
